MTF West Africa Academy Class of 2018’s film screening of Life of Bim and DreamChaser at the Lagos Cinema!

MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF) is excited to announce the highly-anticipated screening of the films Life of Bimand DreamChaserby the MTF West Africa Academy’s Class of 2018! The two films are a culmination of the students’ one-of-a-kind training from the inaugural MTF Academy programme and will be screened at the Lagos Cinema today.

As the first touchpoint of MultiChoice Africa’s ground-breaking corporate shared value (CSV) initiative, the MTF Academy’s 12-month training programme is specifically designed to train the next generation of African film and TV creatives in partnership with stakeholders across the continent.

Under the guidance of the esteemed Academy Directors within the academy’s East Africa, West Africa and Southern Africa academy hubs, the academy students were required to produce a 60-minute film in groups as part of their curriculum, resulting in the films Life of Bimand DreamChaserwhich represent the West Africa hub.

Life of Bimfollows the story of 32-year old Bim, whose life begins to swiftly unravel after the unresolved actions of his past resurface. The results are dire: He loses his chance at becoming a football star, his job and his close relationships. Faced with the possibility of further calamity and pressure from his parents, BIM must now face his past and set his life back on course.

It won’t be easy, and as BIM rebuilds, he has to do the same for his sibling, who faces the same risk of a life unravelling.

In DreamChaser, the bright lights and a chance of fame and fortune in music prompt a young woman to pack her bags and set off for Lagos, despite her father’s wishes against it.

She quickly discovers that pursuing her dream would require even more from her, and at a cost.

For West Africa hub Academy Director Femi Odugbemi, the film screening is a hallmark moment for the students and their re-entry into the industry as creatives equipped with professional and technical know-how.

These two films are a culmination of all that the Class of 2018 have learnt during their tenure at the MTF Academy, and the results are outstanding. They have achieved the essence of what the Academy has set out to do, which is to train the next generation of filmmakers who are willing to take on big themes and unearth untold African stories, and be deliberate about the art that they create,”says Odugbemi.

Students and attendees alike can expect the full red-carpet treatment at screening, with a guest list that includes various industry producers and creatives, film festival organisers, parents and relatives of students, as well as key representatives from MultiChoice Nigeria and its MTF partners and film aficionados.

As part of MultiChoice Africa’s long-term commitmentto igniting Africa’s creative industries, both films will premiere on Africa Magic Showcase. Life of Bim will premiere on the channel on Saturday, 21 September at 6pm, and DreamChaserwill premiere on Saturday, 28 September at 6pm. Both films will be also available on the DStv Now app.

Audiomack’s Recent “Premiere Access” Feature Enables Artists to Reward Supporters With Early Listening

In less than a month of launching its Premiere Access feature, Audiomack has recorded a ground breaking result with Nigerian rapper & songwriter Laycon. During the first week in his Premiere Access release, Laycon’s song “God Body V2” generated 5x revenue vs streaming alone. Premiere Access which was launched recently by Audiomack is a first-of-its-kind feature that allows artists to reward their biggest fans by making a yet-to-be-released song or album available on Audiomack before its wide release.

Premiere Access provides a new way for artists on Audiomack to generate revenue beyond the traditional form of streaming. Now, artists can upload their work to Audiomack, select the Premiere Access feature if they are enrolled in the Audiomack Monetization Program (AMP), and select the period of exclusivity for their release’s supporters. The Premiere Access feature was launched with Laycon and several other top-performing artists such as Nigerian super producer Pheelz, Starboy Producer and DJ Tunez and U.S. singer Almira Zaky.

“As a leading player in the music industry, we recognized the opportunity and obligation to enable creators to explore diverse means of monetization and help realize the financial potential of their work. This feat recorded with Laycon is a testament to more wins we aim to realize with artists that take advantage of the Premium Access feature”, said Jason Johnson, VP of Brand Marketing & Brand Strategy for Audiomack Africa.

Premiere Access builds upon Audiomack Supporters, which the platform launched in December 2021, to allow fans to directly contribute to songs and albums from the artists they love. To be eligible for Supporters, artists must apply for and gain access to the Audiomack Monetization Program (AMP), or distribute their music to Audiomack through one of many participating partners, including but not limited to Warner Music Group, Amuse, AudioSalad Direct, DistroKid, EMPIRE, FUGA, Stem and Vydia.

Audiomack has found that over half of all independent artists using the Supporters feature have increased their earnings by at least 30% via direct fan contributions. Since the feature’s launch eight months ago, over 25,000 artists on the platform have received direct support.
