Media Kolikokids has launched a new TV reality series dubbed The Art Challenge to bring talented young individuals between ages of 15-25 together to celebrate Ghana’s artistic history and future. The reality show aims at creating a platform to revitalize the focus of art education within schools and renew the creative movement for children.

During the media launch which was held at the KAMA Conference Centre on Friday, Michael Thompson, Media and Marketing Director of Kolikokids,  said since 2001the organisation had set itself apart by delivering great educational entertainment to children and their families across Ghana. “Over the years Kolikokids has introduced to the Ghanaian family audience popular educational TV shows such as Barney and Friends, Seaseme Street, Rubbadubbas, Postman Pat, Kids Around the World, Kolikokids and many more”, he said.

He said in an effort to further revolutionalise how kids are entertained and educated through the medium of television, the show had created art, artists and the value of arts, adding, the Art Challenge is fine art reality series which is the first of its kind in Ghana.Mr Thompson said, “Art had moved beyond being connected to a form of religious or cultural expressions, and it had also become ubiquitous.”

The Art Challenge would support projects, artists and galleries, and that it would be a blueprint for other institutions and government when it came to supporting arts. The ultimate goal is to make art more respected, appreciated and viable both as a career choice and a significant facet of our lives.

Over a period of four months, the show would audition the nations art talents after which 20 best contestants would be chosen to participate in 13 different challenges, over a 13-week period as they would be mentored by some of the nation’s renowned artists. Each week, a contestant will be eliminated until we have three finalists who will compete for the title of art master, a car, as well as the option of a scholarship to either the prestigious academy of arts in Chicago Illnois, USA or London School of Arts as well as formal exhibitions of their works in major cities like London, New York, Paris and Johannesburg, he said.

The show, which is sponsored by Provident Insurance, Ghana Commercial Bank, Indomie Noodles, the Dei Centre, DDP Outdoor Limited, and Rosecraft Enterprise, would be aired on GTV. Mr Fred Frimpong, Marketing Manager at Provident Insurance Company, assured the participants of insurance coverage and encouraged other institutions to support the programme.
