Two times Super Bowl champion, Osi Umenyiora has shared some details about the  upcoming NFL Fan Zone event in Accra, Ghana.

The British-Nigerian is coming to the country alongside some top NFL stars of African descent.

In an interview with Ameyaw Debrah, Osi reiterated that the purpose of this visit is to give young African talents the opportunity to have the exact same impact in America by highlighting the talents of Africans in the NFL.

“This trip is very important. Obviously, I’m not the only guy who has played American football that’s from Nigeria. There’s so many of us, hundreds right now from all over Africa who are in the NFL or played in the NFL, and so to draw attention to that and to actually highlight and give the guys and the youth of Africa the opportunity to have the exact same impact in America is what we relish,” he stated.

The now retired NFL player who is looking forward to this trip to Ghana shared what his vision for the trip is.

For me its the camp, just the opportunity to see these guys and know that quite a few of them ask actually going to have their lives changed in this environment; whether or not you are coming to the UK or going to the NFL Academy or given the chance to go to college in America, or whether you are going directly to the NFL is really a life changing, mind-blowing environment for them to be in. I’ve seen it happen before, I’ve gone through the process before but seeing the next generation of this and seeing how it changes people’s lives, for me, that’s what I’m looking forward to,” he expressed.

During their visit, Osi reveals there will be an NFL camp, where young men from all over Africa including Congo, Nigeria, Senegal, Ghana, and South Africa, will be selected and given the opportunity to come to the NFL academy.

There will also be some cultural activities, flag day, a visit to the coast, and other activities that will give the NFL stars the chance of immersing themselves into the African culture.
Osi believes the NFL is a fantastic game with so much potential in Africa, and the arrival of the stars in the country will give young talents the opportunity to see the benefits of the game and get them interested.
