The endless potential of social media is being explored in a variety of ways in the ongoing elections in Nigeria.  “The Time is Now”, a movement made up of a group of Nigerians  come together in the name of wanting to make last minute impact before the elections and to remind people about what they describe as the most high-flying, promising, accomplishing and people oriented party in the 2011 Nigerian elections, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).

According to a bulk email spread across the world: “It is a group of tech-savvy volunteers who have seen the party’s vision and know that this is what Nigeria needs to get out of the constant circle-motion we’ve been moving in for over 50 years. We have come up with some innovative ways to spread this message, including a Blackberry Application. Some other methods are email blasts, viral SMS (from the BB App and website), easy social sharing, and voice blasts.”

“Own The Campaign” is an initiative designed to provide a convenient platform  for Nigerian youths to spread the word, rally support and encourage their family and friends to vote for the candidates who will bring true leadership and positive change to Nigeria.

The email ends with the quote: “Freedom, justice and equality are too precious to surrender”. Do not gamble with your vote. Exercise your right to rebuild a new nation where freedom, justice and equality reign. They are the compulsory ingredients for peace and prosperity and only a party of “democracy for justice” can be trusted to deliver them. Vote the vibrant and dynamic team with modern governance ideas and experience. Vote Ribadu and Adeola in the presidential elections. ACN, democracy for justice!”
