The One Show on VIASAT 1 this week scored yet another first when the primetime television programme, hosted the Norwegian Minister of Environment, Development and Corporation, Erik Solheim. Anchored by Joselyn Dumas, the interview session touched on the sensitive issue of Oil and Gas exploration in Ghana and how the country can benefit from the expected revenue.
Mr. Solheim lauded Ghana’s relatively stable environment and improved economic indicators, and also tasked the government to do more since there is enough that the country can reap from the exploration of oil and gas in commercial quantities.
He said the only way Ghana could match up to the success story of oil producing countries, is to adhere to international best practices, using Turkey and China as examples and also, ensure that there is transparency, equity and development at all levels.
The astute politician who spent some 11 years in the Norwegian parliament said although the benefits of the exploration won’t be realized in the short term, when the country starts raking in a lot of revenue years later, the government must ensure that the overriding priority must be the Ghanaian people: “Utilizing and reaping from the benefits of oil and gas cannot be done in one day. The revenue belongs to the people of Ghana and not the politician,” he told Joselyn.
Mr. Solheim who said he was prevailed upon in 2007 by ex-UN boss Kofi Annan to assist and share in the experience of the exploration in Ghana said he is glad that several years after the discovery, the country is ready to take off, one which he is optimistic, would trigger an economic boost that would help eradicate poverty and also provide education for the ordinary Ghanaian child.
“Ghana on any day is a success story but we must strive hard to get the children into the classrooms”.
He however called on the government’s agencies in charge of the environment to act as a watchdog on the activities of the oil companies since that was the only way the country can ensure that while making profits, the environment on which the exploration is being done, is not destroyed.
“Ghana shouldn’t follow the bad example of those countries that destroy the environment under the excuse of generating income. “We can still generate revenue by not destroying the environment,” he said.
While he bemoaned the recent uprising in Ivory Coast, the wish of the Norwegian government according to Solheim, is to see a better Africa.
Erik Solheim is a household name in Norway with an impressive political resume. In the past, he contributed to the peace process in Sri Lanka.

Mastering Efficiency and Performance: The Comprehensive Guide to Spray Foam Rigs
Spray foam rigs are integral in the insulation industry, offering a robust solution for efficiently applying spray polyurethane foam (SPF). These rigs are specially designed to handle the demands of SPF application, ensuring a precise and controlled delivery that improves insulation quality and energy efficiency. We will delve into the various aspects of spray foam rigs, including their components, benefits, maintenance, and tips for choosing the right rig for your needs.
Understanding Spray Foam Rigs
A spray foam rig is a mobile spray foam factory. It comprises several key components: a spray foam gun, material supply drums, hoses, a compressor, and a proportioner. The rig is usually housed in a trailer or a large truck, allowing for easy transportation to various job sites. The core function of the rig is to mix and apply two chemical components commonly referred to as side A (isocyanate) and side B (polyol resin) at a specific ratio, temperature, and pressure. This process produces the foam that expands and hardens upon application, creating a durable and effective insulative barrier.
Key Components of Spray Foam Rigs
Each component of a spray foam rig plays a pivotal role in its operation. The proportioner is critical as it heats and pumps the chemicals at the correct ratio and pressure through the hoses to the spray gun. The proportioner’s quality directly influences the foam application’s efficiency and quality. Hoses must be insulated and sometimes heated to maintain the temperature of the material as it moves to the application site. The spray gun is where the two materials mix and react, so it must be precise and reliable to ensure consistent application.
Benefits of Using Spray Foam Rigs
The use of spray foam rigs offers significant advantages over traditional insulation methods. Firstly, spray foam provides superior insulation due to its expansive nature, filling crevices and cracks that might be left exposed. This results in better thermal resistance and airtightness. Additionally, because the rigs are mobile, contractors can easily transport all necessary equipment to the job site, reducing downtime and increasing productivity. The automation within the rig also allows for faster application, which can be crucial in large or time-sensitive projects.
Considerations for Choosing the Right Spray Foam Rig
Choosing the right spray foam rig requires careful consideration of several factors. The rig size should align with the scale of the projects you typically undertake—larger rigs for extensive commercial jobs and smaller, more agile rigs for residential work. It’s also important to consider the output capacity of the rig, which should match your application needs. Furthermore, the quality of components such as the proportioner and the spray gun can significantly affect the performance and durability of the rig, impacting overall project success.
Maintenance and Care for Spray Foam Rigs
Maintaining a spray foam rig is essential for its longevity and efficiency. Regular maintenance includes checking and cleaning the spray gun, hoses, and proportioner. It’s also crucial to ensure that the chemical materials do not contaminate one another, as this can affect the foam’s quality and the machinery’s operation. Scheduled professional inspections can help prevent breakdowns and costly repairs, ensuring the rig remains in optimal working condition.
Training and Safety When Using Spray Foam Rigs
Operating a spray foam rig requires specific training and adherence to safety protocols. The chemicals used in SPF are highly reactive and can be hazardous if mishandled. Operators should be trained in proper handling techniques, using personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly, and emergency procedures. Regular safety drills and updates on safety guidelines are recommended to keep all personnel safe on the job site.
Technological Advancements in Spray Foam Rigs
The spray foam industry is continuously evolving, with technological advancements improving the functionality and efficiency of spray foam rigs. Recent developments include advanced proportioner controls that ensure more precise chemical mixing and application, improved hose heat control systems, and ergonomically designed spray guns that reduce operator fatigue. Some rigs now feature integrated diagnostic systems that monitor equipment performance and alert operators to potential issues before they become serious problems.
Environmental Considerations with Spray Foam Rigs
As environmental concerns become more prominent, spray foam rig operators increasingly focus on sustainable practices. This includes using rigs that have more efficient chemical use to reduce waste and incorporating recycling systems for the cleanup and disposal of unused materials. Manufacturers are also developing more eco-friendly formulations of the spray foams themselves, which emit fewer volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and have a reduced environmental impact.
Spray foam rigs are indispensable in the construction and insulation industries, providing critical solutions for efficient and effective building insulation. Whether for new construction or renovations, the benefits of using a high-quality spray foam rig are clear regarding both performance and economic return. As the industry continues to evolve, staying updated with the latest technology and best practices will be key for any business looking to excel in the competitive field of spray foam insulation. Get the best spray foam rigs for sale to ensure top-notch efficiency and performance for all your insulation projects.
