Obo Asiamah says Bisa Kdei & Akwaboah- the only highlife singers currently

Obo Asiamah is not new to the highlife world. In fact, he has been in the highlife scene since childhood, being natured and nurtured in a highlife home. Thus music, and highlife especially, has always been second nature to him.

It is with this background that he expresses sincere concern to the current trends, especially artists making waves presently, and claiming and or labeling their music as highlife, whereas it is in fact afrobeat.

With that being said, and with respect to all legendary great highlife artists, he thinks the only artists doing real highlife currently is Bisa Kdei and maybe Akwaboah. Everyone else is an afrobeat singer, and those trying to sing highlife end up doing it Nigerian style.

The real definition of highlife is embedded in a couple of elements – ranging from the choice of beat to the style of singing.
Highlife is a genre on its own, and it saddens his heart that many great young artist disregard that notion, substituting it with afrobeats to make it easier on them.

Well, he aims to be among the new school of real highlife singers and help uphold our traditional heritage – highlife. 

His first single “My World” of his forthcoming EP can be viewed and listened to in the link below, and critics are always welcomed as he is constantly learning to be among the few holding high the banner of highlife. 

He releases another single soon “Yɛn wor” to satisfy the dancing many. It is highlife inspired, but will not be labeled highlife.

His all time favorite group, thus is R2Bees and he aims to do a duet with them when chance permits.
