‘Photocopying of answers and distribution of same to candidates’ -WAEC Reports Examination Malpractices Following Completion of 2024 WASSCE

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the successful conclusion of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates 2024.

The examination, which began on August 5 with the Visual Art Project work, wrapped up on September 20, 2024. A total of 460,611 candidates participated, comprising 212,954 males and 247,657 females from 1,003 schools nationwide. The exams were held at 1,000 centres across the country.

In a press release dated Thursday, September 26, 2024, John K. Kapi, Head of Public Affairs, highlighted several instances of malpractice observed during the examination.

While the majority of candidates adhered to the established guidelines, some supervisors and invigilators were found to have engaged in misconduct, including photocopying answers, smuggling mobile phones into examination venues, and supplying unauthorized materials to candidates.

WAEC emphasized that the 2024 WASSCE closely monitored the examinations, with personnel from various security agencies, including the Ghana Police Service and the National Intelligence Bureau, ensuring adherence to examination protocols.

 The Council has committed to taking appropriate measures against individuals found guilty of these violations, in accordance with examination regulations. In light of the challenges encountered, WAEC expressed gratitude to stakeholders who reported suspicious activities and reaffirmed its dedication to upholding the integrity of the examination process.
