After witnessing the phenomenal performances at the Global Citizens concert in Johannesburg, South Africa, it is clear the African continent has become a buzzing hub for destination events. In recent years, Accra, Ghana has proved to be a top location for travel and experience, as well. From the Chale Wote Festival to Afrochella, Accra has people from all walks of life journeying to West Africa to experience art and culture. To add to this feat, this year, Jamaican and Ghanaian millennials will join forces to curate the largest and most authentic Jamaican party experience, with Accra as its backdrop. The experience is called PineXGinja.

Mark Beckford, Femi Kayode and Lakeshia Marie, founders of PineXGinja, saw that an organic movement was ongoing where people of African descent across the world were connecting more, because of technology and travel being cheaper. They also saw that culturally, the sound of the world was being heavily influenced by Reggae, Dancehall and AfroBeats.   “We sat and said we needed to add our contribution to this history and movement, and we said why don’t we bring a taste of Jamaica to Ghana in December, this will be a good way for us to show people in Ghana how the bonds have remained strong and hasn’t changed,” Benard said.   The fruition of this idea is PineXGinja, (pronounced Pine and Ginger), will be a merger of Jamaican and Ghanaian culture and an experience.   PineXGinja (Pine and Ginja) is a tropical day soiree set to happen in Accra, Ghana on December 24th at Crystal Park, East Legon and based on what we know so far, it is shaping up to be an experience like none other.   For starters PineXGinja is bringing a musical experience curated by marquee Ghanaian- Jamaican DJ, DJ Franco, international hitmaker and UK-based DJ Juls, accompanied by award winning and leading Ghanaian DJs, Eddy Blay Jr, Mic Smith and Vision. Incidentally this will be the first time ever that a DJ is flown from Jamaica to play for a party during Christmas.   There will also be bars and interactive art installations that interpret and reflect Jamaican and Ghanaian culture.   Lakeshia, an entrepreneur who moved to Accra from the U.S. and started a PR and Marketing firm to link the West and Africa, sees it as more than a party. She sees it as a movement   “Encouraging travel to Africa and bringing our cultures and people together has been my dream. PineXGinja is what we have always been talking about as people of African descent. The fact that we are able to do this, will change the landscape of how we experience culture in Accra, Ghana and shift how people see Africa.”   This will be the first PineXGinja event. The group will fly top Jamaican DJ, Franco from Jamaica to Accra to provide the vibes, authentically.  ]]>
