Ivorian music superstar, Freddie Meiway has asked Ghanaians to pray for Ivory Coast as the country goes to the polls on Sunday. He made the statement during a thrilling performance at the 2010 Miss Ghana finale in Accra on Saturday night.
Meiway began his statement by commending Ghana for leading the way in democratic elections but added that his heart beats with fear as Ivory Coast heads for another general election, which has been preceded by some reported cases of violence. The musician asked Ghanaians to pray for their West African neighbours for peace during the election process, adding that his country does not need another war to set back its developmental gains over the years.
Meanwhile, 18 year old Stephanie Karikari was crowned Miss Ghana 2010 after beating 19 other finalists after several rounds of competition that tested their poise, eloquence, intelligence, talent and general beauty. She was crowned by Mrs Zita Okai-Koi, Minister of Tourism with a brand new crown designed by Elizabeth Dankoro of Tebazile Jewelry. Miss Ghana 2009, Mimi Areme was unable to handover her crown to the new beauty queen because she is currently in China, prepping for the 2010 Miss World contest.
Stephanie won a new Hyundai Accent, a ticket to participate in the Miss World pageant, 5,000 GhC annual allowance and other prizes from sponsors. She also becomes a Corporate Social Responsibility Ambassador for Gold Feilds Ghana Limited to champion CSR projects in Maternal Health and Sanitation, for a year.
Stephanie was followed in second position by 23 year old Frances Efiba Nyamikeh and in third place was 22 year old Esther Gadagbui. The 2010 Miss Ghana event was also spiced with performances by other musicians including Sarkodie, Eazzy, Steve Beda, Nii, and Jay Ghartey.
