SuperSport viewers on DStv and GOtv can look forward to a thrilling weekend of European football action, as your Channel of Champions broadcasts live action from the Premier League, La Liga and Serie A  from Friday 19 June to Monday 22 June 2020.

SuperSport is your home of football and the best place to see all the action from around the world as #LiveSportReturns.

The pick of this weekend round of Premier League matches is the clash on Sunday evening between Everton and Liverpool from Goodison Park. This Merseyside derby sees the return to action of league leaders Liverpool, as they look to move to within touching distance of a first title in 30 years.

“Of course we still have two games [to win until] we can say, ‘Yeah, we are the champions’ but our main focus is to win all the games. That’s the main target,” said Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren.

The Reds turned on the style at Anfield when the teams last met back in December 2019, with goals from Divock Origi (two), Xherdan Shaqiri, Sadio Mane and Georginio Wijnaldum taking the home side to an emphatic 5-2 victory.

The clash will also give African football fans the chance to see some of the continent’s top players in action, including Mane, Mohamed Salah and Alex Iwobi amongst others.

Elsewhere in the Premier League this weekend, Jose Mourinho will take aim at one of his former teams when Manchester United visit Tottenham Hotspur in London for what could be a thriller on Friday night. Both teams are looking to get themselves back into contention for a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League, and this head-to-head battle could go a long way in deciding their fate.

The top match from La Liga this weekend is the meeting of Sevilla and Barcelona from Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on Friday night. The teams’ last meeting on October 2019 brought an impressive 4-0 home win for Barca – with Luis Suarez, Arturo Vidal, Ousmane Dembele and Lionel Messi all netting.

However, Los Nervionenses will be determined to claim revenge on home soil and have shown great progress under former Spain manager Julen Lopetegui, as they push for a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League. Derailing Barcelona’s title hunt would be the perfect way to underline their status as one of La Liga’s top teams in 2019-20.

Fans of Ghanaian football can look forward to seeing two of their best exports to La Liga on Saturday night when Atletico Madrid face Real Valladolid in the capital. Atleti will feature Thomas Partey, a midfielder who is highly sought-after in the transfer market right now, while the visitors boast up-and-coming defender Mohamed Salisu Abdul Karim, who has been a top performer through 2019-20.

The pick of four catch-up fixtures in Serie A sees Internazionale host Sampdoria at the San Siro on Sunday night. The Nerazzurri’s last Serie A clash was a 2-0 loss away to log leaders Juventus on 8 March which could yet prove a killer blow to their title hopes, though victory in this game in hand will bring back to within six points of the top.

Legendary Italian football manager Arrigo Sacchi believes Inter may still have a part to play in the title race: “I took a look at the fixture list and it seems to me that Inter’s road is quite easy. I think Conte can bring them back to fight at the top, even if Juve, for the squad available, and Lazio, for the great motivations, will start with an advantage.”

The Serie A ‘s first game back will arrive on the evening of Saturday 20 June when Torino welcome Parma to Turin’s Olympic Stadium. Il Toros will be desperate to break a six-game losing streak which has seen them slip so severely down the table that relegation is a genuine threat, while Parma will look to Ivorian star Gervinho for inspiration as they seek to climb from ninth place and challenge for a spot in Europe next season.
