Prince Anyetei Adjei takes The Challenge season 4

Published

on

Prince Anyetei Adjei,a graduate of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) was the prestigious winner of the very intellectual and development oriented educational reality competition, The Challenge Season VI. His award was a £35,000 scholarship to study a masters programme at the Robert Gordon University,Aberdeen, Scotland. The other three finalists were Sharon Rose Lithur, graduate of the Central University College, Desmond Papa Kwesi Hackman, graduate of the University of Ghana, and Samaad Yussif  a graduate of the University of Ghana. Two of the four finalists; Samaad Yussif, and Desmond Papa Kwesi Hackman were dropped, then Sharon-Rose Delali Lithur. This was after all four were allowed to sail through all the rounds of the grand finale and all four stood before the panelist for the final judgment. About 2,000 applications were received for the competition. The list was reduced to the four for the finals of the series, which was launched on 24 September this year. The competition, which took place at the College of Physicians and Surgeons, in Accra last Friday night, demanded Prince to answer a question from one of the panelists, Mr Albert Ocran of Legacy and Legacy, on the economic impact of social media on Ghana in the next five years, during the analytical thinking round of the competition. This round was responsible for assessing the knowledge of contestants of happenings in Ghana. Sailing through quite eloquently, and confidently, Prince also said, “I should be considered for this scholarship because I am globally-minded, an important criteria to look out for in leaders of our day.” He saw himself as needing the scholarship because considering ‘where he was coming from’, his brains was supposed to take him where his pocket could not. He also stood out by drawing the minds of the panelists to the fact that he was part of the various winning groups formed at different periods of the competition, which was launched in September this year, pointing out that he was a successful team leader in whom his colleagues had confidence in as well. Sharon-Rose Delali Lither answered a question from Prof Robert Hinson, Head of Department of Marketing, University of Ghana on what advice she would give to government to address the issue of 2,000,000 housing unit deficits in Ghana. She suggested ‘low cost’ housing in the different suburbs of the country, and the regulation of Ghana Rent Control, who in her view, were failing to place sanctions on private house owners, considering that some were taking advance rent payment for unreasonable lengths of time. She said this demanded that much money be paid at a time, which is highly not affordable by the average Ghanaian. In her effort to encourage the culture of paying in bits over a period of time in order to acquire a house as advocated by real estate developers, she said the youth should purchase houses at mortgage, and banks should make it possible for mortgage to be used in acquiring a house. The final hurdle for the four was to identify a community business case and justify funding of GHC 300,000. Prince proposed a community sustaining modern soccer academy at La, in Accra which would demand a minimum entry requirement of a Basic Education Certificate, in efforts to get the youth of the community who do not cherish formal education but are very interested in soccer to see the need to ensure basic education.  He also said formal training of Ghanaian youth in the area of football would help produce more international football players who would bring foreign exchange into the country. Indeed, he made the most impressive presentation, which made an exceptional clapping irresistible. Sharon-Rose Lither proposed a boat landing for the people of Germany in the Volta Region in order to get them to practice good sanitation at the beaches, which had been turned into both a boat landing, and a trading site at the rejection of sheds at the market. She proposed sheds to be created relatively closer to the landing site as compared to the market which had virtually become useless, in order to make the possibility to having sheds to be used and taxation for the purpose of developing the village. Samaad proposed the reconstruction of the unique Nzulezu Township, which has been established on the sea, in order to make it a comfortable tourist center by eliminating fears that the structures are weak and could collapse at any time. Hackman proposed a community project for the youth of Chorker. According to him, he would establish a psydo-educational institution considering that the youth at Chorkor are not very interested in formal education. He would partner an institution in Britain with assistance for the British Council considering their interest in promoting multiculturalism, and offer vocational and technical courses for the people of Chorkor in efforts to give the youth some trading skills to reduce poverty and teenage pregnancy in the area. He said he would advocate for a student-exchange programme for the youth of Chorkor in efforts to change unproductive culture and mentality in the area. Professor Audrey Gadzekpo, of the School of Communications Studies, University of Ghana, and Andrew Martin, a guest judge from Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, Scotland were the board members responsible for picking the ultimate winner. The grand finale was not all about the four intellectuals as the grand finale also saw performances from Yaa Yaa formerly known as Bertha of Stars Of The Future  fame gave a spectacular performance with her soothing voice, Steve Bedi who gave an extra ordinary performance with his saxophone and Chief Momen the young talented poet who ushered in the four finalist with a poem on education The Challenge is a British Council initiative proudly sponsored by Tigo, with support from Databank, Vitamilk, Beige Capital, EPP Books Services, IPMC,  2ND Image and empowered by Gh-One entertainment TV.        ]]>
