jh nketiaIn recognition of the life and works of Professor Emeritus Joseph Hanson Kwabena Nketia, renowned Africanist, teacher, ethno-musicologist, composer and poet, linguist and sociologist, and former director of the Institute of African Studies of the University of Ghana, Legon, and of the International Centre for African Music and Dance (ICAMD), Ghana, the homeland of this illustrious son with gratification wants to celebrate, honor, and thank God for a life well living.

 

‘Nketia Music Foundation and the Celebration of His Choral Works’ is schedule to take place on Saturday, 25th June, 2011 at the National Theater. The event which is aimed at celebrating the works and life of a living legend, Professor Emeritus Joseph Hanson Kwabena Nketia, will also have great musicians such as Kwabena Kwabena,Winneba Youth Choir, Bernice Offei, DSP Kofi Sarpong, Tema Youth  Choir And Ghana Symphony Orchestra.

“There is no better way of helping people come to grips with cultural diversity and practical way than through a programme that makes the best in the cultural traditions of humanity accessible to all.  I am particularly gratified by this opportunity for communities to share their cultural treasures with the wider world as they find ways of sustaining them not only for themselves but for the benefit of humanity” – Professor J.H. Nketia Music Foundation was formed to promote the conservation and development of Ghana’s Creative Legacy in contemporary contexts, and the use of the works of Emeritus Prof. J. H. Kwabena Nketia and other composers for the development and growth of music and culture.  It was incorporated under the Companies Code of the Republic of Ghana on 28TH September 2009, as a company limited by guarantee. The objectives of the foundation includes: to  promote the conservation and development of our creative legacy in contemporary contexts; and to assist in the curatorial and promotional aspects of the Nketia collection of archival materials in the Institute of African Studies, University of Ghana and other locations.

 

The income and property of the Foundation whensoever derived shall be applied solely towards the promotion of the objects of the Foundation as set forth above and no portion thereof shall be paid or transferred, bonus or profit to indirectly by way of dividend, bonus or profit to any  person who is a member of the Foundation or its Council.

 

The event will be organized by Media Excel Productions, a full service event production company, marketing, music production, artiste management, and music merchandise.   ‘
