Ghost Town

GRAMMY nominated Ghanaian singer, songwriter, producer and activist, Rocky Dawuni just released a new EP entitled “Voice of Bunbon, Vol. 1” “Ghost Town” from the EP will be the subject of the first video from the title which is already in heavy rotation on Southern California radio station KCRW’s influential “Morning Becomes Eclectic” program with DJ Anne Lit. “Ghost Town” will premiere on Rocky’s Facebook page and “waved” through the SINE Network at 11am PST on Thursday, November 19 http://www.facebook.com/rockydawuni

It will also be available via Rocky’s YouTube channel at https://youtu.be/WIGe4-YjWWQ The video was directed by Casey Bridges, son of Beau Bridges from the legendary Bridges acting family who co-directed Rocky’s beautiful “Champion Arise” video which was released earlier this year from his last full length album “Beats of Zion.”

Ghost Town” speaks to some of the greatest challenges we face as a human family today. Rocky’s lyrics echo the refrain so many are feeling around the world at this time. His voice brings us together as he sings out from the lowest valleys to the highest peaks. Filming this video with Rocky and friends was an opportunity to collaborate with inspirational artists who share music and a vision of rising above to realize a brighter tomorrow.” – Casey Bridges

The vision of the video was to highlight and articulate a world in crisis. It was filmed in the alleys of the Oakwood neighborhood of Venice, California often referred to as “Ghost Town” which has been dealing with massive gentrification issues. The video also visually touches on the critical issue of homelessness in America which is exacerbated by current events and which continues to elude any lasting solutions. Major parts of the video were also filmed in the Topanga / Malibu area of the scenic Santa Monica Mountains to bring a sense of hope and redemption which the song seeks to portray amidst the chaos. The final scenes of the video come full circle to an intimate backyard jam with cameo appearances by Latin GRAMMY sensation Debi Nova, Mermans Mosengo & Jason Tamba of the Playing for Change band, singer / songwriter Jillian Speer, Kenyan percussionist & DJ Oneko Arika and artist / healer Onyi Love which depicts the importance of community and the triumphant power of human connection.”  – Rocky Dawuni

Voice of Bunbon” (pronounced “boon-bon”) explores the diversity of Rocky’s “Afro Roots” sound fusing modern and traditional musical trends in Ghana and across the continent. The EP is a diverse sonic experience with songs ranging from acoustic to beat driven anthems to cultural explorations utilizing aspects of Afrobeats, Highlife, Reggae, Soul, Pop and beyond. The inspirational words to the songs focus on love, resilience, faith, joy and hope. Running through the EP is a theme of empowerment, urging the listeners to think critically on current issues.  In line with the album’s theme of highlighting indigenous culture, Rocky is planning a big launch party with the Chief of Bunbon, Uborr Wumbe Dawuni and the people of Bunbon, Ghana scheduled for December 5, 2020. “Voice of Bunbon” has already received rave reviews including from beloved Reggae website Reggaeville!

Rocky Dawuni, straddles the boundaries between Africa, the Caribbean and the U.S. to create his appealing Afro Roots sound that unites generations and cultures. A galvanizing performer, Dawuni has shared the stage with Stevie Wonder, Peter Gabriel, Sauti Sol, Alpha Blondy, Michael Franti, Aloe Blacc, Janelle Monae and John Legend, among many others. Ijekimora 2

Nigerian Afrobeats Artiste, Ijekimora, shares her latest single “Fire” with her Ghana fanbase. She featured South African Music Icon, Busiswa, on it. An official video was shot for it too along with the official release of the song.

Stream “Fire” featuring Busiswa here on Digital Stores: Azuri.lnk.to/Fire

About Creating The Song “Fire”

“We came up with the title ‘Fire’ because of the way Busiswa came wild and unapologetic on the beat and it was so steamy we had to name it ‘Fire’, and the chorus had that melody in it too; the song already defined itself and you get to feel the energy and power behind it when you’re listening to it.” – Ijekimora

“The concept of the song is just 2 girls taking over, literally, empowering ourselves as 2 fierce women in the music industry living the best of our lives and making money as well,” Ijekimora added. The song is Amapiano inspired.

Why Busiswa for a feature?

Ijekimora was looking forward to breaking into the South African market, thus, needed an artiste she could work with; coincidentally Busiswa came through as the one. Busiswa had a show in Lagos and Ijekimora’s Team connected with her; and everything took off from there. “It wasn’t stressful at all getting her to jump on my song”, she says.

Ijekimora is still experimenting sounds to put together her debut EP she announced as “Kimorality”. She promises her fans to expect the EP to be out some time in 2023 though there were delays. She is a perfectionist and makes sure she gets her things right hence the little delay but off the cuff she has alreay released fire singles “Sexy Papa”, “Temptation” and a previous sensation “Stand By Me” featuring Seyi Vibez.

Ijekimora, grew up in Dallas but hails from Nigeria. She often shuffles between Nigeria and Ghana; she says Ghana is like a second home to her so she frequents Ghana grounds to do her promotions each time she drops a new song.

Busiswa Gqulu, known mononymously as Busiswa or Busi, is a South African singer-songwriter and poet. Born in Mthatha, Eastern Cape, South Africa, she gained public recognition for her feature on DJ Zinhle’s song, “My Name Is”, after being discovered by Kalawa Jazmee’s CEO Oskido. She is a vibrant artiste known across Africa and beyond and has rocked many stages locally and internationally.

Akwaboah Collaborates With Medikal On New Single, 'Picture'

Highlife and Afro fusion sensation Akwaboah in keeping with his promise to release one banger after another from now till ending of 2023 has outdoored a new Single titled ‘Picture’.

The new song features a first time collaboration with the award winning rapper Medikal.

Akwaboah is currently enjoying enormous success as his Black Stars anthem titled ‘Bring back the Love’ continues to be a fan favourite among football and music lovers during this World Cup season.

Picture is a blend of Highlife and Afrobeat notes and Medikal definitely does justice with his catchy punchlines. Fans are already calling Medikal’s performance his best rap feature on a song.

The song alludes to the penchant for pictorially capturing the significant or joyous moments of one’s life and sharing with friends and family mostly via social media. Its catchy tune is certain to make it a viral hit this Christmas and beyond.

Akwaboah has been tight-lipped on an exact date for the release of the Lighthouse Album, choosing simply to say it will definitely be released early next year.

It will be recalled that Akwaboah surprised his fans last year by releasing the Lighthouse EP instead of the Album. According to him, this was because he had a solid 15 tracks which was ready to go but needed to break it into two for his fans and music lovers to properly appreciate every track on both the EP and subsequent album.

If his collaboration with Medikal on Picture is anything to go by, then fans can truly anticipate a great Lighthouse Album ahead.
