Multiple award winning Reggae artiste Rocky Dawuni says Efya, Becca and Wiyaala are his top 3 female artistes in Ghana.
Speaking in an interview on 3FM’s Drive show with Giovani Caleb ahead of International Women’s Day, the reggae singer stated that his new album featured only two female artiste.
They are Ghana’s Wiyaala and Argentina’s Alika. he said
According to him, this is part of his contribution to an emerging and incredible voice of women here in Ghana, and it needs to be supported by all.
He admitted that his achievement on the international platform has paved the way for many other Ghanaian artistes including the BET award-winning Stonebwoy.
It will be recalled that Rocky Dawuni’s ‘Branches of the Same Tree’ was nominated for a GRAMMY in the Best Reggae Album category in 2016.
Dawuni, was the only non-Jamaican artiste in the running that year and the first Ghanaian to be nominated.
He was up against some of the heavyweights of modern reggae including Morgan Heritage, Luciano, Jah Cure and Barrington Levy.
He has worked with international foundations including Product (RED), UNICEF, the Carter Center, and the UN Foundation.
He also joined Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights’s Leadership Council four years ago and his tracks has been featured on the world’s most popular Games; “African Thriller” on FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014, “African Soccer Fever” on FIFA World Cup South Africa 2010.
Rocky Dawuni officially released his much anticipated music video “Wickedest Sound” featuring Stonebwoy today friday, March 8. The song is a heavy Afro influenced production with a hint of Reggae and Dancehall giving it a crossover appeal.
