Salif Keita, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Lagbaja, Yvonne Chaka Chaka and others for Glo-CAF Awards in Accra
The 2012 Glo-CAF Awards has lined up top African artists to entertain at the ceremony holding in Accra, December 20 December. Top on the list is the sensational, Salif Keita, an afro-pop singer cum songwriter from Mali, who is rated highly because of his reputation as the “Golden Voice of Africa”. Grammy winning Ladysmith Black Mambazo from South Africa, will also be thrilling guest with the harmonies that marry their native South African musical traditions to the sounds and sentiments of Christian gospel music. Also billed to perform is South African singer, Yvonne Chaka Chaka who is expected to thrill the audience with a repertoire which includes hit tunes like “I’m Burning Up”, “I Cry for Freedom”, “Sangoma”, “Motherland” and the ever-popular “Umqombothi”. ‘Lagbaja’, Nigeria’s mysterious masked artiste is expected to keep the night alive with his Afro-Calypso genre of music, a product of various influences ranging from traditional Yoruba music to Jazz. The masked man is expected to enliven the auditorium with his scintillating dance steps and rhythmic talking drums. Also on the bill will be a lineup of popular Ghanaian performers, drawn mostly from Glo’s star-studded corps of brand ambassadors, who will entertain the international audience and add local flavour and colour to the ceremony. The Glo-CAF Awards gala is one of the continent’s most prestigious sports events, providing Africa with a reputable forum for acknowledging and rewarding excellence and achievement in the various departments of football.]]>
