She entered the University at age 13, now Ruth Ama Gyan-Darkwa is the youngest graduating student from KNUST

Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) at its 55th Congregation Ceremony has graduated the youngest student who was admitted into the University in 2017.
Miss Ruth Ama Gyan-Darkwa, who now holds a BSc. Mathematics degree made waves when she was announced the first youngest student ever to be admitted into the University at age 13. This spectacular achievement brought her into the limelight creating a lot of public interest in her story.
According to her, she passed her Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) at age 9, while in her first year at Justice International School in Kumasi. As a result, at the age of 10, she was accepted into St. Louis Senior High School to study General Science and successfully graduated in 2017.
In an exclusive interview with Miss. Gyan-Darkwa, she confessed her journey has not been easy as expected. Although she had a very brilliant academic history, she experienced some of the uncertainties that come with tertiary education. There were times she felt nervous and wondered if she was up to the task. “I was able to overcome the many challenges because God saw me through, and I looked to him at all times. Also, I had my eyes focused on the end goal,” she said.
“Some of my course mates felt intimidated because they thought I was too brilliant. Others wondered if I was cut for the journey. All these brought me to the point of questioning my potential but found solace in how far I have come, the support I received and the future that awaits me.”
Miss. Ruth sharing the brighter side of her experience revealed the support of the President, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and the second lady, H.E Samira Bawumia who gave her a laptop and 4-year scholarship respectively.
Her father, Mr Kwadwo Gyan-Darkwa, a Mathematics and Physics tutor at Prempeh College, expressed great delight in the daughter and how her achievements have brought joy to the family.
Miss Ruth encouraged those who are yet to begin their tertiary journey to believe in themselves, look up to God for help and be ready to embrace the challenges and lessons that come alongside.
She plans to pursue a master’s degree and a PhD.

Ghana’s Dr Pushkin to Perform at SXSW 2023

What is SXSW Music Festival?
The Outlandish album is finally out, and already Dr. Pushkin is on his way to the SXSW Music Festival. The conscious rapper has been confirmed as a performer at the SXSW Music Festival 2023. SXSW, also known as South by Southwest, is the world’s biggest festival of its kind. The event, which takes place in Austin – Texas, brings together over 160,000 fans to a barrage of musical performances, conferences, film premieres, and several mini-events that characterize art. This year’s event comes between the 10th and 19th of March 2023; it will, as usual bring the What’s Next in Tech, Film, Music, and beyond to patrons of the event and the world.
Which Ghanaian artists have performed on the SXSW Music Festival stage?
In 2019, Africa was prioritized by the organizers of the SXSW Music Festival with an “Africa to the World” theme. The event featured a myriad of Africa’s finest musicians and many others. Representing Ghana was Jojo Abot, Stonebwoy, and Efya. In 2023, Dr. Pushkin is honored to represent Ghana on the show.
In a conversation with Dr. Pushkin, he indicated how excited he was about the opportunity. While commenting on it, he mentioned the crew he’s mounting the stage with. According to the “Lies” and “Wake Up” rapper, Ghana’s undisputed tongue-twist specialist, Budukusu, will join him on stage.
The two rappers have collaborated on three songs off Dr. Pushkin’s latest album. And since they’ve been hanging around a lot lately, they are working some magic as a team. Also on Dr. Pushkin’s crew for SXSW 2023 will be Aggie and AZA, featured on “Forgive them” and “No Regrets,” respectively, on the Outlandish album. Selecta Rah of Club Bantu fame will be the crew’s official Deejay as they mount the stage to thrill and awaken the audience.
Dr. Pushkin’s performance comes on the heals of Jojo Abbot, Efya, and Stoneboy who graced the event in 2019 as Ghanaians.
History of the SXSW Music Festival
SXSW started in 1987 with 177 artists and 15 stages. By 2019, the event had 1,964 showcasing artists (including musicians) and 94 Venues & Stages. Notable artists and personalities participating in SXSW are Former US President Barak Obama, Tonny Bennet, Black-eyed Peas, Cypress Hill, Jean Grae, Chamillionaire, Lady Gaga, and several high-profile personalities.
SXSW is an experience of live musical performances, conference sessions, film and television screenings, exhibitions, networking events, professional development opportunities, art installations, and many more. This year’s event takes place from March 10-19. However, the musical festival component is a six-day event, 13th – 18th.
