Sporting legends to attend Laureus World Sports Awards
In less than four weeks, the world’s greatest living sporting legends will unite in Berlin for the landmark 20th anniversary Laureus World Sports Awards.
Football World Cup winners Cafu, Alessandro Del Piero, Carles Puyol and Francesco Totti; Olympic legends Nadia Comaneci, Missy Franklin, Chris Hoy, Edwin Moses and Mark Spitz andGrand Slam tennis champions Boris Becker and Li Na will be present at the Awards Ceremony on February 17.
The 20th anniversary Laureus Awards will honour the greatest sporting triumphs of 2019, as well as celebrating two decades of the Laureus movement and the power of sport in transforming the lives of millions of young people around the world.
The Laureus Academy members and legends of sport so far confirmed to attend, are:

It was at the inaugural Laureus World Sports Awards in 2000 that Laureus Patron, Nelson Mandela, spoke the words which sparked the creation of the worldwide Sport for Good movement. 20 years on, these words still guide Laureus today – ‘Sport has the power to change the world; to unite people in a way little else does’. From sports stars to sports fans and the young people in Laureus Sport for Good programmes around the world: Sport Unites Us.
Laureus has selected Ferrari Trento, sparkling wine producer from the Dolomites in the North of Italy, as an Official Supplier for the 2020 Laureus World Sports Awards. The Un Certain Regard Jury of the 77th Festival de Cannes
The Canadian actor, director, screenwriter and producer Xavier Dolan will be the President of the Un Certain Regard Jury of the 77th Festival de Cannes. He will be joined by French-Senegalese screenwriter and director Maïmouna Doucouré, Moroccan director, screenwriter and producer Asmae El Moudir, German-Luxembourg actress Vicky Krieps, and American film critic, director, and writer Todd McCarthy. They will be in charge of awarding prizes for the Un Certain Regard section, which showcases art and discovery films by young auteurs.
This year, 18 films have been selected, including 8 first films. The 2023 Un Certain Regard top prize went to director Molly Manning Walker’s debut feature How to Have Sex.
When the light breaks by Rúnar Rúnarsson will open the Un Certain Regard section on Wednesday May 15, 2024.
