Stonebwoy, Asamoah Gyan, Kumi Guitar & Bulldog…the war at Zylofon

zylofon media warSo while I have been away getting married, one of my favourite Ghanaian acts, Stonebwoy has been at the centre of a controversies. I finally got a chance to wrap my head around what has been happening so far, and it looks a hell of a mess! Stonebwoy has explained why he fired gunshots at the Champs Bar in Accra last night. According to him, he did that to defend himself of any gruesome attack that may have been launched on him. When King Lagaze asked him on Hitz FM on Sunday of the reason behind what he did, he asked “have you heard of self-defence before?” Stonebwoy on Saturday was reported to have been engaged in a scuffle with some officers of his record label, Zylofon Music, who had gone to the premises to take from him, a car purported to have been given to him by the company. Report has it that Stonebwoy had earlier been to the University of Ghana to perform at the Artistes Night of the Hilla Limann Week Celebration. At the behest of Stonebwoy and his management, the organizers took off all Zylofon Media banners. This deepened speculations that the ‘My Name’ hit maker may have severed relationship with Zylofon Media. Lawrence Nana Asiamah aka Bulldog who is the Artiste and Repertoire Manager for Zylofon Music went to the premise off the show and asked that the cars which were branded in Zylofon insignia were taken away, upon seeing how things branded with Zylofon tags were being disposed off. y then, Stonebwoy had left for the Champs Bar at the Paloma Hotel where his protégé Kelvin Boy was performing. According to Stonebwoy, while in a room at the hotel, he sent his brother to fetch him his clothes from his car when he heard noise from outside. “They hit [my brother] on the lips, they took the car keys from him and they sat in the car…if not for my bodyguard, they would have driven my car away and that would have been something else,” he recounted. He then fired gunshots to dispel the crowd so they could move the car. Apparently, Bulldog had followed up with is guys to the Champ Bar to take the car from him but Stonebwoy has stated that the car in question is his personal property and not what Zylofon gave to him. Management of Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan, has debunked claims by certain media outlets that the footballer wants to bailout Dancehall act, Stonebwoy from Zylofon media. Over the weekend it was reported that Stonebwoy and Zylofon’s artiste manager, Bulldog, got engaged in an altercation on Saturday night at the Champs Bar in Accra which resulted in the firing of gunshots. Some online portals reported that Asamoah Gyan was ready to pay off the two million dollars so Stonebwoy could finally leave Nana Appiah Mensah’s Zylofon Media. But in a press release, Mr Sammy Anim Addo, the Chief Executive Officer of Baby Jet Promotions said “the management of Mr Asamoah Gyan’s office has read the false or fake news which places Mr Gyan into the Stonebwoy and Zylofon Media “Fracas”. “We are asking the publishers to retract and withdraw the fake news from circulation immediately. Mr Asamoah Gyan hasn’t been approached by any representation from Stonebwoy nor does he want to engage in controversy (if any) between the said artiste and Zylofon Media”, the release said. The first artiste signed on by Zylofon Media, Kumi Guitar, has revealed that dancehall act, Stonebwoy was given a week to decide whether or not he still wants to work with the label. The ultimatum, he said, was given to the once beloved artiste of the label after a meeting with the management of the media outfit about a week ago. According to him, he had decided not to speak on the raging beef between Zylofon Media and Stonebwoy but he has been left with no choice but to break his silence after the nasty turn of events at the University of Ghana campus on Saturday night. “What really pushed me to start talking now is last Saturday, Legon had a show in collaboration with Zylofon and we were all billed to perform. We were there and were parked for a long while and a fan called me that they are pulling down all the banners we’ve used to brand the place in Zylofon’s name…so he was asking if the show is closed because he’s not seen us perform…” Kumi Guitar told Myjoyonline.com in an exclusive interview. The highlife artiste said he was confused when he got information that Stonebwoy had allegedly asked that the banners and Zylofon t-shirts be removed. Kumi Guitar, who was clearly disappointed with the turn of events, quizzed “…if you have an issue with Zylofon, do you have an issue with me? No, do you have an issue with Obinini? No, do you have an issue with Joyce Blessing?” and therefore wondered why Stonebwoy didn’t allow them to perform at the event. While he won’t comment on the nasty incident at the Champs Bar at Paloma Saturday night where Stonebwoy fired a warning shot and Bulldog allegedly tried to seize the dancehall act’s car keys, Kumi believes that the story had to be told properly for people to have a clear picture of what was really going on. “If these things keep happening and he [Stonebwoy] succeeds or people don’t get the picture right, he might succeed in pulling down Zylofon and if Zylofon is down, I am down,” the man who believes he influenced the establishment of Zylofon Media said. The ‘Betweener’ singer noted that there is a contract between Stonebwoy and Zylofon and if there are issues, they have to be resolved amicably but if one party constantly fails to fulfil their end of the contract, the other party has to point it out. According to Kumi Guitar, Zylofon Media paid all Stonebwoy’s expenses including his trips, recordings and his two major concerts – one at Ashaiman and the other at the National Theatre. “What I heard was that you got angry because Shatta [Wale] was signed… if you won’t give him what he wants, automatically he [Nana Appiah Mensah – Zylofon Media CEO] will fail to give you what you want or better still, he will go look for somebody who can do the job for him if you cannot do it,” he said. The highlife artiste strongly believes that the Zylofon Media CEO did nothing wrong by signing Shatta Wale after all “Stonebwoy is not a shareholder of Zylofon.” “He can bring the argument that maybe in his contract, they wrote that he is the one representing Dancehall so they shouldn’t bring somebody else. If you are representing Dancehall, it’s not just about representing but you also have to represent Zylofon. You are an ambassador representing Zylofon, how many times are you hashtagging Zylofon?…this is where our boss also has a problem and he has told you several times, you’ve gone for meetings?” He warned the action actions of Stonebwoy could have ripple effects on other artistes on the label. “I’m starting to talk because I began this thing. Our boss wouldn’t have been in this industry. I was the one who spoke to him to do it and I wasn’t selfish, I told him to add people on board and then you [Stonebwoy] also are a beneficiary…yes he was Stonebwoy before we met him but can he say that Zylofon has added nothing to him? “You’ve been spoken to and then you’ve been given the opportunity to decide if you still want to be part of us as family…if you want to go also, you decide. For a week now you’ve not responded only for you to do this. Is it that you want to frustrate the investor or you want to frustrate Zylofon,” he questioned. He wouldn’t confirm or deny Stonebwoy’s exit from the label but noted that there is still a valid contract with the dancehall artiste. Kumi Guitar says he will release a song, ‘Gyae’ about the current impasse on Monday. He is using the song to urge Stonebwoy to “stop” what he is doing. https://youtu.be/xjW1NjTxvWI The Chief Executive Officer of Zylofon Media, Nana Appiah Mensah has finally spoken on all controversies about his outfit and dancehall artiste Stonebwoy. He promised to solve the brouhaha amicably for peace to reign. He said: “I urge all well wishers of @shattawalegh, @stonebwoyb and @ZylofonMedia to remain very calm. Whatever differences, as with all human institutions would be resolved in the most civil and decorous fashion. Ghana shall prosper. #zylofonmusic #Ghanamusic #<Ghanawins”. https://youtu.be/EQokSwFF_Tk]]>
