Stonebwoy faces backlash for promoting new music amid ‘Stop Galamsey Now’ protest
Ghanaian Afro Dancehall star, Stonebwoy, has come under heavy criticism on social media for promoting his new song “Jejereje” amidst nationwide protests against illegal mining, also known as galamsey.
Citizens and activists took to the streets in Accra and other major cities, rallying under the hashtag #StopGalamseyNow, calling for immediate action to protect Ghana’s environment from the destructive effects of galamsey.

The protests, which were meant to be peaceful, turned tense as law enforcement responded with arrests, sweeping up not only protesters but also innocent bystanders. Some of the detainees have reportedly faced inhumane conditions, with reports of lack of access to food and water, raising serious concerns about human rights abuses in the country.

In the midst of this, Stonebwoy released the music video for “Jejereje,” prompting backlash from fans who felt the timing was inappropriate. Many argue that, instead of promoting music, the artist should use his influence to support the anti-galamsey movement and add his voice to the growing calls for environmental justice in Ghana.
No hate but I respect Tems even more for postponing her music video release when there were protests in Nigeria https://t.co/ySPYwjuum0

Meet Livingstone Etse Satekla aka Stonebwoy who writes a whole thread cos he wasn’t recognized in a Grammy article but insensitive to the suffering of the people who made him who he’s today by selfishly launching his music video while his people are being brutalized by the police https://t.co/MlBUeRoql7 pic.twitter.com/IvFSl4sdwr
