strong manOsei Kwaku Vincent, also known as Strongman rapped his way to the top as he clinched The Next Big Thang in GH title at the grand finale which took place on the Osu Oxford Street last Friday, November 16. Strongman who seemed to have the crowd dying for him got them even more in love as he battled it out on stage with Teephlow during the first round, gunning a lot of cheers and support from the crowd. Then came the individual tasks and once again, Strongman proved that he was well prepared for the competition as he showed his skills in rap. Teephlow came second, while Bebelino and Magnificent took the third and fourth place respectively. For his prize, Strongman took home 5000 Ghana cedis, one year recording contract, and products from Somo Vision. The other three contestants also took home products from Somo Vision. The street was filled to capacity with fans of the four emcees and well wishers of the reality show.  The grand finale was hosted by Blaqboi of Rhytmz fame and music was provided by the young and talented DJ Armani of Citi fm. The judges for the night were the rap doctor Okyeame Kwame, the first lady Eazzy and Hammer of the last two fame. The show kicked off with a battle between Tee-Phlow and Strongman which Strongman won hands down. The rap battle between Bebelino and Magnificent also saw Magnificent winning the battle. The rap battle was followed by a cypher to determine the best emcee with a hit making cypher. At this point, the crowd was confused as to who cheer for; they crowd gathered there made their intentions clear that they wanted either Tee-phlow or Strongman to win the competition. The emcees then performed what was dubbed the viewer’s choice, where they performed songs that the viewers think was their strongest performance. Tee-Phlow performed the popular Boko Haram song which talked about a Ghanaian in Nigeria during the Boko Haram saga. Strongman did the famous Obituary song that had Okyeame Kwame clapping for the emcee during the audition stages. Magnificent sang the peace message song whiles Bebelino sang the PHD song. All emcees received good comments from the judges and even had standing ovation from the crowd. It was the final round, the make or break time for the judges to decide who the winner was going to be as each emcee took to the stage to perform his own song. The judges were full of praise for how far the emcees have come, how they have heeded to their advice and incorporated it into the own songs. All judges agreed that their songs will be a hit in no time if they should ever come out with either singles or an album. However the grand finale night was not all about the four emcees as Osu Oxford saw performances from Kla la, Edem with his Heyba song, Dadie Opanka and an up and coming hip hop artiste Yaa Pono. Every performance by each artiste received thunderous cheers and applause from the gathered crowd but Yaa Pono and Edem stole the night on the side of the performances. Tensions were high, palms were sweating and the emcees had butterflies in their stomachs as the results were about to be mentioned. Blaqboi who could no longer keep the crowd in suspense again, read out the results which were a compilation of the viewer’s votes and the judges score. Magnificent came fourth, Bebelino came third; It was left with Tee-Phlow and Strongman on the stage just a second away from the declaring the winner of the maiden show the next big thing in gh hip hop, the crowd went gaga as they started shouting Strongman even before Blaqboi declared him the winner. The young emcee could not back his tears as he thanked all his fans and those who took their time to vote for him, he also thanked Tee-Phlow for making this a competition for him. Strongman the winner of the reality show won for himself a recording contract, a 42 inch plasma television and a home theater, the second and third winners also took home a 32 inch plasma television and a home theater and the fourth winner took a 20 inch plasma television made possible by sponsors of the reality show Somovision your world of electronics. The next big thing in gh hip hop is a GHOne initiative which was proudly sponsored by Somovision.  ]]>
