Students from Joyce Ababio College of Creative Design turn plastic into beauty

As part of their final projects, the 2019 graduating class of the Joyce Ababio College of Creative Design (JACCD) were tasked to make fashion statements from plastic bottles and waters sachets. This was to further re-orient students on approaching fashion in an ethical and sustainable way.

Using plastic as fabric, the students made statements about the plastic menace to further drive home the awareness on recycling and reuse – in innovative and creative ways

In one week, the amazing masterpieces you see below were created solely by the students to sensitize people, especially in the season we are in.

“Not only do we want to enlighten our students, but also Ghanaians in general to the different ways plastics can be reused and recycled. This is the right time to speak to the plastic menace in our country and begin to open minds on ways plastic can be reused. Our students spoke to this menace in a truly inspiring way and I am truly awed by their work.” stated the Head of the Fashion Department, Mrs. Eleanor Ashitey.

Concept: Top made from plastic bottle and skirt made from water sachets. Outfit speaks to the pollution in the ocean and the harm to our sea life.

Concept: Raincoat made from water sachets. Use of water sachets in a functional way for everyday life.

Outfit by: Emmanuella Odor

Concept: Outfit made from water sachets. Rocket made from refill bottles and flames made from plastic bottles. Fabric around the rocket signifies the people of the earth that are being overwhelmed by plastic waste. The sister of Captain Planet is ready to take on the plastic menace in Ghana.
