When  Tupac Shakur was murdered in September 1996, he was riding passenger-side with the leader of Death Row Records, Suge Knight. And after 21 years of arguable statements, conspiracies, documentaries, debates and finger-pointing, Knight has now stepped forth to disclose the two individuals responsible for the murder .

BET’s Diamond Alexis writes that Several sources have reported that in an officially signed affidavit, Thaddeus Culpepper, Knight’s attorney, wrote that the label CEO has “known for many years that Reggie Wright Jr. and his ex-wife Sharitha were behind the murder of Tupac and attempted murder of Knight.” Wright Jr., the then-head of security for Death Row, had previously been linked to Pac’s death by a former LAPD detective Russell Poole, along with Knight’s ex-wife. However, Knight was the intended target of the shooting, as Poole believes the two conspired to murder him to gain control of Death Row Records. Knight seconds these claims, as the “salient points” of the new Tupac Assassinaton: Battle of Compton documentary was what reportedly convicted him to disclose such classified information.

Knight, who has been incarcerated since January 2015 on murder and attempted murder charges for a separate incident, has also long been suspected and accused of Pac’s death due to inconsistent testimonies, one of which he suggested Pac faked his own death. The affidavit also claims that he has knowledge of those involved with the murder of Tupac’s most-spotlighted East Coast rival, Notorious B.I.G, as well.

If there’s truth to Knight’s claims, hopefully his latest reveal will move everyone closer to solving the cold case of the legendary rap prophet’s death once and for all.

Future’s ‘Life Is Good’ Ft. Drake Certified 10x Platinum

Published

on

Life isn’t just good. It’s sensational.

Just over two years after its release, “Life Is Good,” the seminal 2019 collaboration from the historically prolific tandem of Future and Drake, has been certified 10x platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. Future has just gone Diamond.

The latest certification for “Life Is Good” marks a career first for Future, who has a slew of multiplatinum singles and a multiplatinum album under his belt. Only 66 songs have ever been certified Diamond in the US (at the time of this writing), placing Future in one of the most exclusive clubs in recorded music.

At the time of its release, the reception to the song was immense and impossible to ignore. Future and Drake, the duo responsible for 2015’s bombshell joint studio album, What A Time To Be Alive, have a sterling reputation that’s impossible to ignore. That “Life Is Good” may very well wind up their crowning achievement is an accomplishment in itself.

For Future, this is a fitting point on his career arc, which doesn’t seem intent on leveling off any time soon. When Future, the musical descendant of The Dungeon Family, began bubbling out of the Atlanta mixtape circuit and started collection nationwide acclaim, it would have raised the brows of many to suggest that the part-time rapper, part-time singer would be one of the most impactful and imitated mainstream artists of the next decade. However, the formula he championed and stood behind has become the blueprint for many.

This Diamond certification is more than a sales acknowledgment, it is a testament to the work he’s put in.

Smiling With No Teeth landed this March to critical acclaim including praise from NPR Music, i-D, The Guardian, Paste Magazine, Hypebeast and many more. On the album, Owusu presents a soul-bearing narrative and full-length release that is impossible to ignore. It intuitively picks apart and reassembles themes of mental health, resilience and race, to become a culmination of ideas and defining chapter in Owusu’s acclaimed discography, that begs for listening over and over.
The 15-track LP seamlessly defies genre boundaries while delineating the nuanced complexities of mental health, as well as Owusu’s experience of living as a black man in a white society. Owusu illustrates each disclosure from within his mind under a tessellation of soundscapes, moving through future-funk, rap and OG hip-hop to guitar-laden odysseys veering from punk and indie-rock to tinges of wistful folk. Smiling With No Teeth, at its heart, remains dedicated to Owusu’s core audience, those who live outside of the box, out of choice or in a decided lack of belonging.
