Now in its 23rd edition, this year’s selection committee led by Dimitra Karya features 17 films (13 narrative films and four animated films) by eleven men and eight women, selected from among the 1,952 works that were submitted by participating film schools. Israel, the United Kingdom, Argentina, Hungary, Romania, India, Switzerland, the United States, South Korea, France, Poland, Portugal, Germany and Slovenia are all represented this year, with the latter having been included in the selection for the very first time.
The screening of the Cinéfondation Selection, which culminates in the Jury awarding Prizes, will take place next autumn at the Palais des festivals in Cannes. The exact date and the names of the jury members will be revealed very soon.

That year, the Cinéfondation First Prize was awarded to a French school for the first time: the award went to Mano a Mano by Louise Courvoisier from Lyon’s CinéFabrique.
This edition is dedicated to the memory of David Kessler (1959-2020), who supported and cherished the Cinéfondation.

Pastor husband of murdered councilwomen, Eunice Dwumfour makes a post to mark what would have been her birthday

The husband of a Republican councilwoman in New Jersey, who was gunned down outside her home, wrote a birthday post for her a month ahead of time.
Eze Kings honored his wife Eunice Dwumfour’s birthday one month and a day ahead of her 31st birthday after she was found dead in her car on Wednesday evening around 7.22pm.
On Thursday, he wrote: ‘4th March is your birthday happy glorious birthday in addy my love.’
He posted professional photos where Dwumfour’s wedding ring was visible throughout many of the images. The pair married in November.
Investigators told ABC 7 that they are digging into her husband’s ties to a church in Nigeria, among other things. The mother also reportedly spoke with her shooter moments before she was shot dead, but no suspects have yet been named.
The Republican mother-of-one was found with multiple gunshot wounds and pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses claim that the suspected gunman was spotted racing away from the Camelot at La Mer apartment complex, and a 911 call was placed at 7.22pm.

Authorities say that the councilwoman, who worked for a Nigerian-based church group, was the intended target – but have not given a motive.
Friends of the politician said the killing could have been racially motivated as the couple lived in ‘clan land.’
‘We all suggested that she doesn’t move down to that part of Jersey — we call that “clan land,” the friend, who asked to remain anonymous, told the Post. ‘That was a hit. That was an assassination.’
Another friend, Amos Martey, 52, of Ghana, told the Post: ‘I believe color played a role. I believe because she’s a minority. It might be related to her job … I might be wrong, but that’s how I feel. It breaks my heart.’
Her white SUV was seen being removed from the scene by authorities in the early hours of the morning.
Family members told USA Today that she lived at the property with her 12-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.
Her sister Priscilla said: ‘She was always happy, very humble and had respect.’
Currently, there have been no arrests in the case, with Sayreville Police and Middlesex County officials investigating the incident.
Friends of the councilwoman paid tribute to her as an ‘amazing friend’ who ‘loved god.’
Detective Juan Rodriguez and Pastor Doctor Nelia Rodriguez posted online saying: ‘I just saw her this morning at the store.
‘I remember saying to her I’ll see you at the HRC meeting tomorrow not knowing tonight was going to be the end of her life.

Ne-Yo to pay ex-wife almost $2 million after finalizing divorce

Ne-Yo and Crystal Renay have finalized their divorce in just five months, court documents obtained by Page Six confirm.
The “Because of You” crooner will pay his now-ex-wife a $1.6 million lump sum to balance out their real estate holdings and $20,000 for moving expenses, according to TMZ, which obtained the settlement details.
Renay will also keep one of their four homes in Georgia.
Additionally, Ne-Yo agreed to cut a $150,000 check to Renay so she can buy a new car, as he is keeping their 2022 Bentley Bentayga, the outlet reported.
The “So Sick” singer, 43, will also pay Renay, 36, $12,000 a month in child support for the three children they share, and he will foot any education-related expenses, too. They agreed to joint custody of the kids.
Finally, Ne-Yo will give Renay $5,000 per month in alimony for the next three years.
Renay filed for divorce from Ne-Yo in August 2022 after she publicly accused him of cheating on her.
“To say I’m heartbroken and disgusted is a understatement. To ask me to stay and accept it is absolutely insane,” she said at the time. “The mentality of a narcissist. I will no longer lie to the public or pretend that this is something it isn’t.”
Within the divorce filing, however, Renay alleged that Ne-Yo, whose real name is Shaffer Chimere Smith, had fathered a child with another woman, whom she described as his “paramour.”

Splash House Announces Dates for 10 Year Anniversary Season

For the last ten years, Splash House has continually redefined the summer festival, fostering a boutique experience in the heart of Palm Springs, ahead of its time music curation, and devout community. In celebration of this milestone, Splash House 2023 returns this summer for its second triple-weekender season June 9-11, August 11-13, and August 18-20.
The event has evolved from a renegade poolside weekender into one of the most in-demand dance music festivals in North America, all the while retaining a distinct sense of style rooted in the culture and allure of Palm Springs. Vast desert landscapes and unique accommodations at the Renaissance, Margaritaville, and Saguaro Hotels converge with fashion-forward audiences and forward-thinking musical bookings to create a new way to experience the travel hotspot.
In turn, Splash House has attracted a new generation of travelers to the desert city, which saw an economic impact of $6.7M per weekend from the three event weekends alone in 2022.
Chairman of PS Resorts Aftab Dada said on Splash House’s decade-long role in driving youth travel in the area, “Splash House is a home grown and incredibly successful music event for the City of Palm Springs and our destination. It has revitalized tourism in our slow summer months and attracted a younger generation. The festival is proof that Palm Springs is a destination for all ages”.
Scott White, President & CEO of Visit Greater Palm Springs added, “Splash House was a game-changer 10 years ago, attracting new visitors to Greater Palm Springs during our Summer months. We are excited about their continued success and the important economic impact this event has on our community”.
It remains the ease and comfort of the Splash House experience that makes it a favorite amongst its dedicated followers. All packages come with festival passes, a three-night stay at any of the three host resorts, and shuttle transportation between venues. Guests can relax in the comfort of a poolside room or catch their favorite artists from the balcony before making their way down to the dance floor.
At night, attendees can experience After Hours programming at the Palm Springs Air Museum while enjoying an open-air dance floor and witnessing artists perform alongside historic aircrafts, all backdropped by the San Jacinto Mountains.
As a barometer for what’s next in electronic music, Splash House has hosted acts like RÜFÜS DU SOL, Flume, and Classixx before they hit the world’s stage, alongside global selectors like The Blessed Madonna, DJ Harvey, Dom Dolla, TOKiMONSTA, Kaytranada, and more.
Presale passes and hotel packages for all three weekends will be available to purchase on Thurs, February 9 at 12PM PT. Those interested can register for the presale now on their site. Check out all pass types and hotel package options on splashhouse.com. Alumni Access returners get first access at hotel packages and passes and can check their status on the website. GA passes start at $165 + fees and hotel packages start at $1,000 + fees. Guests must be 21+ in order to purchase.
