Ghanaian rap icon, Michael Owusu Addo, known Professionally as Sarkodie has opened up about the challenges bedeviling the country’s music royalty system.

According to the ‘Otan’ hitmaker, the implementation of a well-organized system is key to ensuring artist get their rightful earnings.

He further detailed that establishing a more organized framework for royalty distribution would not only streamline the process but also ensure that artists receive their rightful earnings promptly.

The multiple award-winning crooner made this statement during a panel discussion at the 3i Africa Summit Partners and Stakeholders Mixer held in Accra on Thursday, March 7, 2024.

The royalty system has been a major issue here in Ghana…But fixing it wouldn’t be that difficult. We just need to set up a proper system and collect the money that’s owed,” he said.

The panel focused on exploring the convergence of the Creative Industry, Policy, and Fintech.

Other influential figures from the creative industries joined Sarkodie on the panel, including KOD, Chief Moomen, and filmmaker Juliet Asante.
