They met on Instagram… 5 years later, meet Mr and Mrs Joshua Kissi
When I first heard of Joshua Kissi, a Ghanaian-American creative entrepreneur specialising in photography and creative direction, I was impressed by his body of work as much as the fact that he bears my family name, ‘Kissi’.
In fact, I followed him on Instagram and after a few conversations, I found out that he was also from a Kwahu heritage, but of no known relation to me. Any way, Joshua has been trending on social media after his marriage last weekend to Ethiopian-American, Mekdes Sedkem.
Raised in the Bronx, Kissi grew up with an affinity for the arts and picked up a camera at the age of seventeen. Despite the lack of exposure and inaccessibility to the creative industries, and from Kissi’s determination that bore the fruit that is Street Etiquette in 2008.
Kissi’s second-biggest venture was with business partner Karen Okonkwo; TONL– a culturally diverse stock imagery company aiming to change the narrative and current aesthetics of stock photography.

Someone described our wedding as a “Diasporic Wonderland” and now I can’t unsee it. Our Ethiopian and Ghanaian Heritage was really important for us to express during our wedding. #loveatfirstlike 🇪🇹🇬🇭 pic.twitter.com/KdE3wkCGEA
