TikTok finally bans silly ‘crate challenge’

Yes, it is a silly challenge.If you search for the “milk crate challenge” on TikTok, you won’t find any videos anymore now that the social media app has banned the popular but dangerous trend on its platform.

The viral challenge involved people stacking up walls of milk crates and walking over them, sometimes resulting in physical injuries. The ban comes after warnings from doctors and concerned users.

“TikTok prohibits content that promotes or glorifies dangerous acts, and we remove videos and redirect searches to our Community Guidelines to discourage such content. We encourage everyone to exercise caution in their behavior whether online or off,” according to a statement from TikTok.

The challenge was done at parties, TikTok users’ backyards and even during gender reveal events. However, most of the time the person climbing the crates is seen crashing to the ground.

Several doctors and health workers voiced their concerns over the challenge. Charlotte Corke, an intensive care unit nurse in Minnesota, called it “horrifying and dangerous.”

“It’s just weird. We’re already seeing people die from COVID, and now I’m seeing patients in the ER with head injuries from this TikTok challenge,” Corke told USA TODAY.
