Trending: Ghanaians sarcastically show how ‘important’ Bawumia’s Ghana card is
The Ghana Card, an identification card for all citizens of Ghana is trending on social media after the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia declared it important than road interchanges.
On Thursday, July 14, 2022, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who doubles as the Chairman of the Economic Management Team, chose a cogent national identification system over the numerous interchanges constructed across the country.

“We have implemented a national identification system and today we have 16 million Ghanaians with unique identities and that is a major transformation. And sometimes a lot of people don’t even appreciate what the impact of the Ghana Card is. But if you gave me 1,000 interchanges and a Ghana Card, I will choose the Ghana Card because it is more impactful,” he said on Thursday.
The Vice President’s comment comes at a time when Ghanians are yearning for infrastructural development in the country.
Since the release of his statement, Ghanaians worldwide have reacted to his comments; some stating how insensitive his comments were.
On Friday, July 15, a day after his statement went viral, some Ghanaians have resorted to a social media challenge to sarcastically show how ‘important’ Bawumia’s Ghana card it.
In photos going round on social media, the Ghana card is seen placed in bowls, on car fuel tanks, on electricity card meters, e.t.c., to mockingly show the extent of the importance of the card to Ghanaians.
