Universal Music rejected my hit song “Ojorley”- Cina Soul

Ghanaian singer, Christie Quincyna Quarcoopome popularly known as Cina Soul has recalled the day her hit song titled, ’Ojorley’ was rejected by Universal Music, her record label.

Earlier on in 2018, Cina Soul was signed on to the Universal Music label, however, after two years of collaboration, they decided to part ways.

Rumour has it Cina disliked working for Universal Music because of the restrictions on her artistic freedom.

Contrarily, Cina kept quiet about her issues with the label up until her most recent interview with Naa Ashorkor on Asaase Radio.

Cina revealed there were some problems, claiming that her song ‘Ojorley’ was rejected by the label.

The award winning vocalist claims that she wasn’t provided with a specific explanation and that all they kept stating was that the Ga language predominated the song.

‘They rejected the song, even though it was my most popular song because they found it to be amusing. There was a lot of Ga in Ojorley , and they thought it wouldn’t cross boundaries,” she told Naa.

“So I did a stubborn thing where I dropped it without their knowledge, shot a video myself even though I was still with them. And that song became my biggest song,”  she added.
