From Afrobeats to Afro-pop, African music has seen much evolution but the ‘Afro-American’ genre by Ghanaian US-based rapper Kofi Cater is definitely new to our ears.
The likes of Beyonce, Micheal Jackson, Lil Wayne are considered African-American acts who do pop music or rap music but definitely not ‘Afro-American’. It was therefore interesting to hear 21-year old Kofie Carter who is a self-taught drummer, piano, saxophone, guitar, and bass guitarist fuse his African influence with Western sounds to create a unique mix of afro-beat, afro-pop, hip hop, trap and hip-life he calls the ‘Afro-American’ genre
In an interview with AmeyawTV’s Ted Jones, the rapper born Hackman Kofi Owusu-Agyemang II, Kofie Carter explains how he created his own style to fit his talent.
