We Are Confused- Majid Michel Breaks Silence On Spike Lee, Ghana Movie Industry Brouhaha

Famed Ghanaian actor, Majid Michel, has disclosed that members of the Ghana Movie Industry are confused with regard to issues surrounding American filmmaker, Spike Lee’s visit to Ghana and his inability to meet them.

Speaking In an interview on ‘Asempa Showbiz’, the renowned actor asserted that he never heard about the visit of the American filmmaker, emphasizing that he doesn’t believe Spike Lee came with the US Vice President, Kamala Harris.

‘‘I said who brought him? I don’t believe he came with the Vice President of America because I saw him walking like a regular guy at the Kotoka Airport …did you see that? He questioned the host.’’

According to him, while Kamala Harris met with some musicians during her visit to Ghana, some members from the Ghana Movie industry were with Kamala’s husband, Douglas Emhoff and therefore very confused and surprised with Spike Lee’s comment.

Majid also mentioned that Spike Lee should have been at the meeting if he had intentions of meeting with them. The actor further asked, Spike Lee, who brought you to Ghana?’’

The filmmaker was part of the Creative Arts team that accompanied the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris during her 3-day visit to Ghana.

It will be recalled that in an interview on Asaase Radio, the American movie star while answering questions regarding the Ghanaian film industry made known that he never knew there was a thriving film industry in Ghana.

In the words of Spike lee, “I know about Nigeria, and no one has approached me from the film industry in Ghana. I would love to meet people in the film industry, but no one has approached me.”

In reaction to the claims of the film maker, the Ghana Film Authority in a statement revealed that efforts to meet the actor in Ghana proved futile.

“We have become aware of a circular on the visit of Mr. Spike Lee. As excited as we were to hear this news after he landed on air, the Authority’s CEO was on her way to meet Mr. Lee to reiterate the positioning when the Authority was informed that his schedule was busy for the evening,’’ the statement read.

Ghana Film Authority in the statement urged organizers of such trips to inform the necessary agencies to ensure that Ghana takes full advantage of all opportunities for the benefit of all.
