Ghanaian singer, Wendy Shay has revealed the inspiration behind her hit new single, “Survivor.”

According to her, the song was inspired by a recent heartbreak she went through.

”My new song ‘Survivor’ is a broken heart song, it’s a personal song to me,” she said in a recent appearance on Glitch Africa.

Wendy Shay admits that love and heartbreak is universal and can happen to anyone including celebrities like herself.

“Broken heart is universal. It doesn’t know if you’re an artiste, star or whatever. It can happen to a man, it can happen to a woman,” she added.

The Rufftown Records signee also revealed that the song was meant to tell her story and consequently empower other women who are going through abuse in their relationships.

“What really gingered this song was when I heard the death of the late Nigerian Gospel singer Osinachi. So I decided to do a song to empower women, especially those who are in abusive relationships,” she added.

Wendy Shay’s “Survivor” was released one month ago.

In the song, Ms Shay details how she went through lengths for her love interest who later left her after getting “a piece.”
