Why Radio? Abeiku Santana writes to mark World Radio Day

As we draw down the curtains today on World Radio Day , I would like to quote Ernest Agyemang Yeboah
“Radio is powerful not because of the microphones, but the one who sits behind the microphones”
I made this profound statement on my Twitter timeline somewhere last week that
“Open your mouth if Only what you will say will be more beautiful than your silence”
Radio has been and will continue to be an essential information and Communication tool.
Newspapers, radios, and televisions have been a part of human lives for generations , However Radio is an inseparable part of our lives.
In a world filled with mobile phones, tablets, computers and internet in general people often ask us, “Why radio”?
The answer is simply that Radio still has the widest audience footprint, reaching millions who have no access to the internet.
Radio’s power to educate and inform in everyday life and in emergencies is just as important today as it has always been, and possibly even more so today.
Radio is proving to be invaluable during the current Covid-19 Pandemic.
Learners are tuning into radio stations to receive information via the airwaves. on how to prevent the spread of the infection and save lives.
The diversity of or Radio Plurality has brought competition to programming creativity and innovations.
In Ghana the National Communications Authority (NCA), has given frequency authorisations to 575 FM Broadcasting Stations Out of the total number of authorised FM Broadcasting Stations, 428 stations are currently operational as at June, 2020.
Radio has provided a good platform for pouring out expert opinions in different fields to inform , educate and entertain its audiences about everyday life.
With almost two and half decade in Radio , I am of the view that , Ghana’s currently Socio-Economic and democratic stability is as a result of Radio Programs developing and empowering people across cities, towns and villages of this country.
Happy World Radio Day to all colleagues, Partners and stakeholders.
Let us continue to hold the fundamental Principle of Information, Educating and Entertaining our listeners qualitatively.
