Wizkid opens up about the pain of losing his mother

Afrobeats star, Wizkid, recently opened up about the pain he is experiencing after losing his beloved mother. He described this loss as the most profound and heart-wrenching sorrow he has ever endured.

The tragedy occurred on August 18, 2023, when Wizkid’s mother, Mrs. Jane Dolapo Balogun, passed away in London. After weeks of grieving in private, the artist made his first public appearance at a candlelight procession held in her honor on Wednesday.

Wizkid’s upbringing in Surulere, Lagos, was within a polygamous household, with a Muslim father and a Christian mother. His mother, a constant source of strength, provided unwavering support as he skyrocketed to fame in the music industry.

In 2014, Wizkid released a poignant track titled ‘Mummy Mi’ as part of his ‘Ayo’ album, dedicated to mothers worldwide. In this heartfelt song, he celebrated his mother, expressing gratitude for the boundless joy she brought into his life and vowing to lavish her with the finest luxuries life has to offer.
