Worlasi launches music and arts festival to combat climate change

Giving Shade is a brand new all-day music and arts festival held in Accra by award-winning music artist Worlasi, known for his socially conscious songs including Fokoo and We all G O Die, and his annual Worlafest concert.

The event, organised in collaboration with Trybe and The Rogue Collection, is intended to drive awareness of reforestation and the importance of green spaces. Worlasi plans to raise funds to plant trees and build green spaces in his neighbourhood, and across Accra. Discussing the importance of creating spaces for the public to enjoy and promote environmental sustainability, the musician said:

“I remember growing up there used to be plenty of trees lining the streets that not only brought shade, but shelter, beauty and cleaner air. Now I see dust, noise and no relief from the sun. With Giving Shade I want to bring focus to the importance of green spaces in our communities and to kick off I’ll be using the proceeds from The Giving Shade Concert to grow and nurture trees near my home. If they won’t do it for us we can do it for ourselves.”

Held in the beautiful green spaces of Alliance Francaise, the festivities kick off with an exhibition where Worlasi will be presenting original pieces as well as displaying work from local artists. All pieces will be available for purchase, giving Worlasi fans an opportunity to own an original painting by the multi-talented artist.

The exhibition explores themes of nature preservation, environmental healing and reforestation to highlight causes, effects and solutions to the prevalent environmental issues we face as a country, and motivate our communities to take action.

This will be followed by a concert featuring award-winning artist Kwabena Kwabena as well as Pure Akan, Marince Omario, and Avit. Previous concerts have been supported by M.anifest, Efya, Adomaa, Trigmatic, Ayigbe Edem and many other Ghanaian music pioneers so surprise guests should be expected!

This new event is not one to be missed – Giving Shade promises stunning art and a concert with some of Ghana’s favourite musicians, all to support a good cause and make our country greener.

The exhibition has been organised in partnership with A Rocha Ghana, an environmental NGO providing practical conservation interventions aimed at contributing to the sustainable management of important ecological habitats in Ghana. The concert is sponsored by Green Way International, Waste or Create, Ijula and WyeTey Group.
