YS Rolls The Dice In Detroit In “Chances” Music Video

Published

on

YS simply does not miss. Only a few weeks since his ground-shaking collaboration with Louisville slugger EST GEE “Play 4 Keeps”, he is back with another heater titled “Chances”. As YS maintains his status as Compton’s most consistent artist, he shows why he cannot be placed in a box musically.

While YS has an affinity for murky piano west coast style production, or Detroit style heavy synth beats, this Helluva production has him in an entirely different bag. This bright, theatric sounds like the the score to a scene in ‘BMF’ the series where Big Meech escapes and starts a new life, instead of succumbing Continuing Criminal Enterprise charges that will likely have him serving the rest of his natural life in prison.

Not unlike Big Meech, YS says “I’ma roll the dice with my life I’ma chance it, Glock .45 keep it on me, I can’t panic, water on my neck don’t slip, diamonds dancing” which if you know anything about the Black Mafia Family’s history, it is very relatable to them. It is incredibly fitting that this Little Nate directed visual is shot in a charmingly rusty part of Detroit.

Stay tuned for more YS and Helluva hits as their collaborative project “Realer Than Real” is set to release later this month.

Born Justin Lawson in Compton, YS is the newest rising talent from the home of Kendrick Lamar, YG and Roddy Ricch. Raised by his Southern-bred grandparents, the 21-year-old first developed his love for rapping at the age of 13. He began recording tracks known for their colorful gang-banging references, drawing inspiration from his everyday street life.

By 19, he released bonafide hit, “Bompton,” a hard-hitting Trayvon Jackson-produced hometown anthem that scored neighborhood recognition and caught the attention of Alamo Records. Later, a remix of the viral smash — aided by features by 1TakeJay, Shoreline Mafia’s Ohgeesy and Fredo Bang — ushered in YS’s 13-track debut project, Street Dreams. Songs such as “Real From The Start” offer a vivid glimpse of his world and the promising skill of his melodic wordplay, a page taken from his greatest musical influence Lil Wayne. While he works on forthcoming musical outputs and grows as an artist, he plans to offer a window into the softer, more soulful side of his gangsta persona.
