Rocky Dawuni explains why Stonebwoy is not a GRAMMY nominee although he’s featured on 3 nominated albums

On Tuesday, November 23, 2021, nominations for the 64th GRAMMY Awards were announced.

Ghana was duly represented as Rocky Dawuni’s album, “Voice of Bunbon (Volume 1)” was nominated in the “Best Global Music Album” category.

Stonebwoy also revealed that he had featured on three of the “Best Reggae Albums” that were nominated for the category; “Pamoja” by Etana, “Live and Living” by Sean Paul and “Royal” by Jesse Royal, insinuating that if any of the albums win, he would have won himself a GRAMMY too.

However, speaking in an interview on Citi TV, two time GRAMMY-nominated Rocky Dawuni explained that getting featured on a nominated album does not make one a nominee.
“There is a lot of confusion, as you would understand, GRAMMY nomination is for a body of work, so there is a difference between a nominee for a GRAMMY and also featuring to be part of a song of a GRAMMY-nominated album, he explained.

“You have contributed to the song, but you are not a nominee. The thing is, I am not the one saying it. You should go to the Academy website and see who the nominees are,” he added.

Rocky Dawuni however did not deny the fact that been featured on a GRAMMY nominated album is a big achievement.

“I think that sometimes…been featured on a record is a great achievement. It’s really great, but we have to also recognise what is… we can’t create our own rules here and be using those rules,” he stated.
