Nii Odoi Mensah had been spending about $300 weekly to stay alive, after doctors declared both of his kidneys incapable of performing their key functions effectively.
He publicly called on benevolent organisations and individuals to support him financially to seek medical treatment in China in an interview with myjoyonline.com last year.
He requested for $15,000 for his treatment and other expenses.
Although it was reported that some philanthropists offered to donate the money to enable him to undergo surgery, it’s not clear what became of it.
