African music takes centre stage in Austin with SXSW’s Africa To The World Showcase

So clearly, I couldn’t have had my first taste of South by Southwest (SXSW) without experiencing what Africa had to give to the world! And what a line-up from the continent and the diaspora we had this year!
Although some of the previosuly announced artists couldn’t make it to SXSW 2019 for various reasons, those who made it, gave us reasons to be proud!
From Ghana this year, we had Stonebwoy and Efya and althought I missed their performances because of schedules, I was pleasantly surprised to discover new talents via Ghana to the US.
Kofi Skills is an all-round musician who can produce, sing and rap, while Kofi Black is a vocal powerhouse, who has not only collaborated on tracks with Wyclef Jean, but is also signed to the music genius.
I also saw my buddy, Jojo Abot wow the crowd with her disntict trance music and awry craft. I was also happy to see that she had ‘bewitched’ her way into some Austin newspapers, with her very unique music and fashion style, while at SXSW.
The final day of the 3-day Africa To The World showcase was hosted by Chukwunons Ofoli and LydRock. DJs on the deck included DJ Top Donn and Poizon Ivy The DJ. The Highland Lounge reverberated with the rythyms of Africa across genres such as afrobeats, dancehall, rap and R&B.
The line-up I witnessed included Salma Sky (Zambia), King Kanja (Kenya), Aramide (Nigeria), Moonchild Sanelly(South Africa), Victoria Kimani (Kenya), Mayorkun (Nigeria), and Adekunle Gold (Nigeira).
