Award-winning Ghanaian Sarkodie and sexy Nigerian songbird, Tiwa Savage have just completed work on the video of their second collaboration titled ‘Ordinary Love’  – one of the songs off Sarkodie’s  upcoming 3rd studio album,  ‘Sarkology’.

The two recently hooked up in Accra, Ghana for the music video shoot and I caught up to find out more about the exciting collaboration.

“I have been a fan of Sarkodie for a long time. And the last time we were both at the Channel O Awards we didn’t get to meet. But my friend was like ‘I know him’ and I said I really want to meet him and work with him. I was really nervous when we exchanged contact information but he was so down to earth for someone who had achieved so much and the level that he is in Africa. He was so humble and ready to work and I could tell he was true and somebody with a good heart. That’s basically how it all happened and I’m really honoured to work with him,” comments an excited Tiwa Savage.

Sarkodie explained that “The song was produced by Beat Merchant in Canada. When I went for my Canada tour, he sent me a couple of beats and he ended up producing about 20%percent of the tracks on my album.  He also produced ‘Devil In me’ with me and Efya.” For the video to ‘Ordinary Love’, the rapper returns to Award-winning music video director Gyo Gyimah once more.

He explains: “I am going back to Gyo, I am going back to my roots.  You know I started with Gyo with my first videos including ‘Borga Borga’ and ‘Lay Away’- crazy videos from way back. I had to pause from Gyo to work with other directors but I’m going back to him. Gyo coming back means a step up and we are going all out. A lot went into the video but I’m not going to say much. “

“The storyline is about relationships and people are trying to stay in relationships though it is not working. In this case I am the problem, she is okay; she just has problems with me. She is coping with me; she always tries to leave but keeps coming back to me. I was trying to run away from the storyline because I don’t know how to act, so I told the director that I would need people to act the story so Tiwa and I would just show up. It was so funny. For instance when I had to stare into Tiwa’s eyes and I kept laughing. The director had to cut back and forth. “

Tiwa Savage’s latest album, “Once Upon A Time” is expected to hit the stores from June 14. She described the album as  being emotional.  She said, “The album for me is from my heart; it has a lot of different emotions.  It has party jams and emotional songs as well.”

Sarkodie also promises fans an eclectic collection of songs of his ‘Sarkology’ album expected to be out in August. He said: “There’s a lot to expect on the new album, I can easily call it a Nigerian album because I have all my Nigerian friends supporting me on this album. I have 2face, Timaya, Banky W, Wizkid and so it is a lot of me stepping up and mixing up with the styles of other artists.

This is not planned but I think gradually I am doing more of female targeted songs because they want to see that side of Sarkodie. So I have Tiwa, Raquel, Efya and and Sian on it also.  So it’s more like giving listeners a variety of sounds. I also have azonto as well. The album is me but stepping it a notch up. “
