Austin Millz & Alina Baraz Collab on Alluring Single ‘Breathless’ from Millz’s Forthcoming EP, Breathwork

Harlem-born DJ/producer and viral phenomenon Austin Millz releases his latest single, ‘Breathless’, in collaboration with R&B and downtempo electronica singer, Alina Baraz. It’s the final track prior to the launch of his highly anticipated upcoming EP, Breathwork, dropping this summer. The Harlemite’s been busy in 2023 disrupting the industry with his distinctive contemporary approach to blending classic genres and styles with electronic music, as seen from his recent successful collaborations with R&B stars like, ‘Inhale / Exhale feat Sabrina Claudio’ and ‘Freeway feat. Estelle’.

‘Breathless’ is the latest track that conveys Austin’s sonic creativity and range that is  complemented by Alina Baraz’s dreamy soft vocals. Together the two harness a fusion of contemporary dance and R&B producing an upbeat single with seductive lyrics that leaves listeners yearning for more.

In the past twelve months, Millz has cemented himself as a central figure in America’s contemporary Black dance community, switching between traditional genre barriers with ease. In the past month alone he co-headlined Atlanta’s Boiler Room with Amapiano star Uncle Waffles, rocked Coachella’s Heineken House and performed at Miami’s F1 Grand Prix. His singular, high energy, live sets have won him legions of fans, and will be brought to an even wider audience during his debut North American Breathwork tour.

On the single, Austin Millz comments — “I’ve been a fan of Alina since the golden era of Soundcloud so working with her meant a lot to me. The way she captures songs with her tone and lyrics and voice is magical. On this project Breathwork I wanted to get artists who typically wouldn’t be on a dance record to come into my world. Alina came into my world and really brought it. Uptempo, classy, innovative and sexy is the best way to describe Breathless. Working with this record was  a great experience. The sessions we had for this record was so much fun, we were just jamming. Alina cares about each part of the song process just the way I do and we brought this record to the finish line and couldn’t be more proud of it.”

Known for her ethereal vocals, the versatile singer-songwriter Alina Baraz seamlessly crosses over genres like R&B, hip-hop and electronic music similarly to Millz. Her 2015 debut, in  collaboration with electronic producer Galimatias for EP Urban Flora landed #2 for Billboard Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart, immediately garnering her global recognition. Her dreamy vocals continue to attract prominent artists like Khalid and 6lack, further cementing her place in the industry with no signs of slowing down.

On the single, Alina Baraz comments — “Connecting with Austin on this song was so refreshing. I listened to a lot of dance growing up and I’ve always wanted to experiment with it. Our sessions were special and freeing and you can feel that in the song. It’s playful, it’s light hearted, it feels good and there should always be room for that. I really believe in Austin and his artistry and am grateful how open he was to having me be a part of the entire process of Breathless.”
