17 year old, Betty Obarakpo has emerged winner of Miss Omolewa Nigeria 2011, beating 6 other finalists to the coveted teenage beauty queen crown after months of preliminaries and selections. She will be working with Project Friendship Initiative to raise money for kids affected by the recent violence in Nigeria.

When asked at the interview round of the Pageant what she would do if she won the title , she responded by saying that she will touch as many lives as she can and increase the ongoing message by project friendship, that “the children are the future and we need to protect them as much as we can.”

The Miss Omolewa Nigeria started in 2009 and saw Tinuade Adewole emerge as winner of the maiden edition. She worked with Women Trafficking and Child Labour Eradication Foundation.  Lase Omitowoju from Osun state won the second edition of the pageant and worked with Lifting Our Community, raising money for the education of Children around the country.

The founder of the pageant, Ayotunde Fabamwo aka Twitch comments: “it is important to teach teenagers from a very young age  to grow in life and help make a difference in the world, and with the Miss Omolewa Nigeria pageant and its partner charities we have been able to do just that. At the Miss Omolewa Nigeria, we are all part of a new generation of young adults that try to make a difference in the world”

The 2011 pageant was held at St Bernadette’s Hall , Gowon Estate in Lagos , and saw 6 finalists drawn from the 6 areas of Lagos compete for the grand finale. The contestants went through three rounds of competition, Occasional wear , evening gown and the final question. On why they picked Betty, Oyinda Alege, CEO Diamond Touch commented “She had that overall Star quality and she hungers to make a difference”

Betty Obarakpo walked away with a two weeks holiday package to the USA sponsored by Badabeat Associates, a scholarship to Saco film International , Face of El’frida and loads more.
