On December 29, an evening of fraternization and bonding will take place at the Zanzibar cocktail bar in Labone as people who were in boarding school in the 1980 come together for a special evening.

Hosted by the 87-year group of Achimota School, Chairman of the Entertainment Committee for the celebrations, Isaac Osei Bonsu says the event is open to anyone who wants to re-live the boarding school days of the 1980s and wants to share in the fun of a Records Night, “which was what we called a jam in those days.”

In the spirit of camaraderie, the 1987-year group of Acimota School is hosting this event to celebrate their impending silver anniversary since leaving school and have invited old Presec boy ‘DJ Blow’ as a special guest to thrill the event dubbed ‘Records Night’.

Traditionally, twenty five years after leaving, graduates of Achimota School return to the school for their first official reunion as hosts the school’s Founders’ Day celebrations. As a prelude to this, the 1987-year group on whose shoulders the mantle falls in 2012 has been feverishly preparing for the celebrations and are planning a special event this December to bring together all their mates and friends in a bid to highlight the impending celebrations, and create an opportunity for some fraternizations.

Osei Bonsu further explains that the event, which will be an occasion for some ‘bonding, reminisces and fraternizations’ sought to bring “DJ Blow to join three other distinguished old Achimotan DJs, Lexis of Soundcheck, Giles Bossman and Rami Baiti, all of who play unique selections of music from past eras, for people to reminisce the ‘good old days’ as it were.”

President of the 87-year group PaJohn Dadson said, “There’s a growing interest in this event, in spite of all that is happening during the Xmas festivities, that is very encouraging, and all the DJs promise something special. There will even be a cool numbers session.”

A cocktails and light grub bar will be stocked throughout the night. Owner and manager of Zanzibar, Mr K Ashok says he is excited about this event, and is pulling all the plugs to create the best party this Christmas. “We will have three main areas fro people to hang out, the inner room, the beer garden and the wine marquee will be set up to make the event quite special.

DJ Blow, who is one of the hottest DJs in Ghana today following the success of the now defunct Friday night Impulse Disco sessions and the current ‘Tulip Mirror Ball’ – TMB – events at the Golden Tulip Hotel, says he is delighted to play for his friends from Achimota a night before his final TMB6 event for the year. “It will be a good precursor for TMB6 and I mean to make it a fun jam!” He will treat guests to a special compilation of tunes from the era when the 87-year group were in school.
