<![CDATA[DStv viewers can catch some exciting drama, history, music and more as the month of March draws to a close this week. Some of the highlights include: Deacons For Defense: This made-for-cable drama starring Forest Whitaker, Chris Britton and Jonathan Silverman is set in 1965, not long after passage of the Civil Rights Act. To the African-American citizens of Bogalusa, LA, however, it is business as usual – they are still treated like third-class citizens, their fundamental rights as human beings persistently trampled by the white power structure, in general, and the local branch of the KKK, in particular. Like many of the local black men, war veteran Marcus works in the town’s mill for meagre wages, and must endure the ongoing humiliation meted out by his white supervisors. But when he is beaten up by the police for the “outrage” of trying to defend his own daughter, Marcus is pushed too far. Encouraged by an idealistic white Northerner, Marcus organizes the Deacons, an all-black defense group dedicated to patrolling the black section of town and protecting its residents from the more violent aspects of ‘white backlash’. DStv audiences can tune into M-Net West on Saturday 31 March at 22:00 CAT to watch this movie, which was inspired by a true story. Madiba: The Life And Times Of Nelson Mandela: DStv audiences can tune into History from Saturday 31 March 20:30 CAT to watch this two hour special celebrating the extraordinary life and achievements of Nelson Mandela through archive footage and interviews with his comrades and family. Gospel Greats Featuring Fred Hammond: DStv audiences can tune into One Gospel every Thursday night at 22:00 CAT to watch classic videos of the very old time and latest gospel favourites. Legends to look out for this month are: Richard Smallwood (Gospel music composer, music director, pianist and arranger) on 1 March; award-winning gospel recording group The Canton Spirituals on 8 March; the 280-voice Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir on 15 March; Grammy-winning Christian rock music trio DC Talk on 22 March; and gospel music singer, bass guitar player and record producer Fred Hammond on 29 March. House (Season 6): The doctors and medics of House return for the sixth season and the argumentative Dr House (Hugh Laurie) is out of Mayfield Psychiatric Hospital. After some persuasion, he’s undergoing treatment for his vicodin addiction, and back on the job that keeps him sane. The first of these new episodes sees the rigorously rational House confronted with some major magical thinking; a wealthy businessman is convinced that his son’s stomach illness is no mere medical matter, but instead karmic payback for financial success. With Chase and Foreman distracted by the investigation into the tyrant’s death, will House and the team be able to find a more mundane explanation? You can tune in to House on Tuesdays at 20:50 CAT.]]>
