Printex, Baileys, and GoWoman Magazine hosted 100 dynamic African women in the creative industries, and in public service from Sierra Leone, Ghana, and Liberia at a ceremony at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra. Printex also chose this occasion to recognize the accomplishments of four women who have made significant contributions to their respective fields. Nobel Laureate Leymah Gbowee, and Ghana’s Minister of Gender, Nana Oye Lithur were lauded for their life long commitment to human rights, justice, and peace. Fashion entrepreneur, and founder of Christie Brown, Aisha Obuobi and actress, producer, and glaucoma awareness advocate Yvonne Nelson were awarded for their contributions to West Africa’s creative industries.
In addition to recognizing these amazing women, Printex GoWomen’s Day served as a kickoff for the African print textile manufacturer’s designer brand collaborations. Three Ghanaian fashion brands have been selected to appear on co-branded billboards with Printex. Poqua Poqu, N’kya Designs, and TV talent turned fashion designer’s label Deborah Vanessa will each get 4 billboards erected in Accra showcasing their products paid for by Printex. These designers were chosen because they show lots of promise and because they used Printex in their fashion collections. “We believe that supporting local designers is integral to Printex’s positioning and continued growth in the African textile industry,” said Printex Brand Strategist, Vickie Remoe.
Printex Ghana was founded 50 years ago but then it was just a small family owned enterprise producing towels. Today with over 15 years operating as a key player in Ghana’s local print textile manufacturing industry, the company have over 500 employees. Speaking at the product launch, Printex Managing Director Mr. Milad Millet said that his company was committed to supporting women in the region. On International Women’s Day this year Printex partnered with the African Women’s Development Fund for a two day all women slam, showcasing the best and brightest female poets, and authors in Ghana.
At the Printex GoWomen’s Day guests were treated to a live soulful performance by singer and song writer Efya. African Movie Award winning actress Lydia Forson was the mistress of ceremony while Ghana’s number 1 female Disc Jockey, DJ Kess played the best oldies and new age hits.
Leymah Gbowee selected Mrs Charlesetta Williams of Health Page Liberia Inc. to receive her GoWoman certificate of recognition. Nana Oye Lithur’s certificate was received by Ms Agnes Essah, Marketing Director of Guinness Ghana Brewery who was her room mate at University. Printex GoWomen’s Day will be an annual celebration to honor West Africa’s most influential women.
