He contends that discussions about theatre only gain traction during elections for political gains, rather than genuine recognition of its developmental significance. In a recent appearance on the Graphic Showbiz (X) Dialogue series, Coleman remarked, “There are people who are blind and don’t see what theatre can do in our society.” He emphasizes the need to wait until close to elections for the conversation on theatre to receive the attention it deserves.

Coleman also criticizes the construction of new theatres without addressing the mismanagement of existing ones. He questions the wisdom behind this, stating, “They don’t see our importance, but if we don’t place value on it, who would come and do that for us as major stakeholders?” Reflecting on the government’s amphitheatre initiative, he raises concerns about the representation of the National Theatre of Ghana, saying, “There can only be one National Theatre of Ghana. But, does our national theatre represent us well enough as a country?” Coleman passionately urges both politicians and creatives to commit genuinely to recognizing and nurturing theatre’s invaluable role in shaping Ghana’s cultural landscape.
