Fireboy DML on becoming a ‘Playboy’
I want to put out a disclaimer that it’s not the kind of playboy you think, or what everybody thinks… not a playboy that breaks your heart, this is just a young man that is starting to come out of his shell to play, express himself, have fun, to experience life, to step into his superstar element.
I’ve been shying away from it the past couple of years. The past three years of my career I’ve been a blown, established artist so I think it’s time for me to just step out and actually enjoy the fame that I’ve worked for over the past two years.

I’m just trying to take advantage of the momentum that afrobeats has right now, any artist that doesn’t take advantage of that is losing. I just want to grab it by the shoulders and go along, and I’m really glad for this new refreshing sound that I’ve found in the last couple of years.

Ehiz: My brother you have money now! You’re living the life. You have to at some point, I get it with the retrospective point of view but you gotta tell us you’re popping bottles a little bit bro!
Exactly! I have to admit it to myself that I’m a superstar, and it took me a long time.
Fireboy DML on breaking boundaries for Afrobeats
I feel proud of myself, the feeling is pride in yourself but particularly in Afrobeats, in Africa and the Nigerian music scene. But we cannot, I cannot… not give accolades to the generations before mine. Afrobeats has always been about paving the way for the next generation after you, opening up doors. That’s how it’s always been and I feel like even we are breaking bigger doors, bigger boundaries for the generations after us. I just feel proud to be at the forefront of that crusade.
