After what has generally been accepted as a successful maiden edition of the Ghana Music Awards in December 2010, Gollywood Productions, organizers of awards, has opened entry for Ghanaian filmmakers to submit their works for consideration.

The second edition of the awards ceremony which is aimed at honoring excellence in the Ghanaian movie industry was launched on Wednesday and is scheduled for December 25. The organizers have promised a better production this year around and it will also be televised to millions of viewers across Africa and beyond. The Jury also stated that the awards would be a lot more competitive this year with some new additions and subtraction.  Nominations will be announced in November with an anticipated huge party at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Kumasi.

Deadline for all submissions is in October 2011 and submission forms can be downloaded from the Ghanamovieawards.com or handpicked at the Gollywood productions offices opposite Cottage Annex adjacent Metro TV. Each completed entry form must be accompanied by all the supporting materials listed on the submission forms- the synopsis of the film, producers, 2 DVD copies of the 120 minutes movie, proof of the right to submit etc.

Also submitted movies must be movies released from the editing bench of production houses within October 2010 and October 2011 and not necessarily movies that were released on the movie market in year under review. Hence all movies must indicate year of copyright.

Over 30 awards will be given in various categories including Best Actor and Actress in Lead Roles during award’s night in December. Ghana Movie Awards’ Committee headed by ace actor, David Dontoh has added three more categories to the previous categories namely Best Cameo, Best Actor and Best Actress in a TV series, and Best Picture TV Series. Mr Dontoh stated that in the following year, split between English language films and local language movies would be phased out.

The Ghana Movie Awards is being organized by GP Ltd in collaboration with Multi TV’s Cine AFRIK channel and Film Producers Association of Ghana and supported by Lufthansa Airlines, Golden Tulip Hotel (Accra, Kumasi & Lagos), United Airlines and Brussels Airlines.
