<![CDATA[Adjoa for Green Initiative in collaboration with the Environmental Health Club, a Tema based non-governmental organization, have visited the Tema Parents’ Association School during its 14th Inter-Houses Athletics Competition. The visit was intended to influence the school children through athletics to build positive mindset towards environmentally responsibly behaviours. Matilda Densu popularly known as Adjoa, of the Ghana’s Most Beautiful season five has initiated a move to embark on a national tree planting exercise campaign. This is in efforts to creating increased awareness on the need for sustainable living across time, to improve upon the country’s drive to addressing deforestation and environmental health concerns. The Adjoa for Green Initiative is designed to engage schools and religious bodies in participatory actions that promote ecological justice. In a brief interaction with the school children, Adjoa shared the importance of planting trees as very necessary for a healthy environment. She urged the children to become ambassadors for the green initiative in their various families. She echoed the facts that, trees prevent soil erosion, provide noise buffers, wind breaks, create neighbourhood beauty and purifies the air we breathe. She added that trees provide a cooling and shade effect as well as serving as a carbon sink to green-house gases. On his part as the Project Coordinator, Robert Amiteye urged the participants to respect the environment by refraining from littering. He said, “We can be healthy and beautiful people if we live up to our collective responsibility as caretakers of our environment”. He expressed appreciation to the school’s authorities for the warm reception. Earlier Mr. Kwaku Anin Adjekum, the Headmaster underscored the significance of attitudinal change and the need for other measures to curtail the increasingly poor environmental sanitation concerns in the country. The two headmistresses supported the call to increase awareness creation and to engage all stakeholders. The Sports-master thanked the visiting team for the initiative and the familiarization visit.]]>
