Gospel musician, Patience Nyarko has charged event organisers to pay gospel musicians equally as their secular counterparts.

According to her, they put in the same amount of work as secular artistes, hence deserve equal pay.

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, the “Obi Nyane Me” singer said event organizers and churches interpret their presence as God sent, hence find no need to pay them well.

“Look, let me tell you, event organisers always pay us less than our colleagues on the other side. No matter how big a Gospel musician is, they are always paid less than even a young secular artiste who has a little fame. There is no way any A-list Gospel musician in Ghana’s earnings is same as an A-list secular musician,” she said.

She continued; “Event organisers and the churches who invite us feel we do this for Christ so why should we charge big money. Meanwhile, Gospel musicians are better performers. Our stagecraft for instance is better than some of these secular musicians yet they take home much more than us,” she said.

Patience Nyarko insisted that Gospel musicians should be paid well because they also spend more on recording albums, singles and even shooting videos.

“Most times, Gospel artistes record albums and not singles. And just like secular musicians, we also spend a lot of money to shoot music videos. If for anything at all, we should be paid more but as we speak, that is not the situation,” she lamented.
