Grammy-winning Afro-beats singer, Wizkid has revealed the two careers that his parents encouraged him to pursue growing up.

According to Wizkid in an interview with The Cable, music is more than a skill to him, adding that it was a means of escape for him because he was forced to choose between being a criminal or working in the music industry.

“When I informed my parents that I wanted to become a musician, it was difficult to have that talk with them since they thought I should either become a lawyer or a doctor,” he stated.

“They still regard me as a boy, and I had to prove myself to them; it took me how many years,” he added.

The “Essence” hitmaker also revealed that he handles “Wizkid” like a million-dollar businessman and that he hopes people will learn more about him as he gets older.

Speaking about parenthood, Wizkid said that he is now more circumspect with his language because he is aware that his kids are listening to his music.
